Tanah A’eir fell into dark ages after the Caster Revolts* a cleansing of magically inclined persons after they revolted from years of oppression, serving in militaristic and other indentured functions. When the last of the Casters fell in combat or took to hiding, the dark ages began. The next two centuries were left in shadow. While the remnants of arcane items were hoarded away by the highest bidders the common folk were left to rebuild without the assistance of their previously enhanced tools.
Humans and the Change of the Gods
Divine Magic, being one of the few remaining magics available to the humans, began to be abused. The existing gods, now Old Gods, did not take kindly to this. Refusing to commune with the self-appointed heads of their temples. As they began to withdraw a power vacuum of belief began to grown. The void to be filled was so powerful it drew the attention of arch fey, elder demons, and even powerful mortals. From the squabbles arose 13 New Gods to lead humanity into its renaissance.
Generations later a steam industrial revolution has begun in the New Theocratic Cities. While those who worship the old gods and mother nature have retreated to the forest in hidden villages. Dragons have their own island and have refused interaction with those of the main lands.
