Lorach

Notable For: Demonic wastes, merciless wildlife, Order of the Watcher       Many consider Lorach a land abandoned by the gods. During the Lorach Incident, portals to the Abyss tore across the land, threatening to overtake the rest of Ibivelt. The invasion was turned back by the Knight Triumvirate with the slaying of Yeenoghu, demon lord of Butchery, marking their first major victory. The Portals were sealed and Lorach separated from the mainland, a prison to any demons left in the wastes: including the denizens left behind. Those poor souls left behind are considered traitors to the world, though whether or not they had anything to do with the incident is yet to be proven.       Every inch of Lorach is rife with danger: Tears to other worlds, swamps filled with lost spirits & wild magic, and common beasts twisted by demonic corruption are all too common here. As for the populace, all have come to match the heartlessness of the region. The Tiefling's formed the Deep Federation, exploiting the astral gates of the western peninsula, trading with and defending against the multiverse; The Orc Hunting fleet scours the wastes of Lorach and the Monsters Bastion, holding back the terrors that might threaten towns and adventurers; The Goblinoids hide away in Hruggeknying, their stronghold next to the Scar, a ravine at the heart of the Lorach Incident; as for the Gnolls, they've freed themselves of Yeenoghu's influence, fleeing into the Primeval Desert. Though the people have very little to pride in and share with the world, the exotic nature of the region attracts adventurers nonetheless.
Some come to slay monsters, others to make deals with them: Lorach breeds heroes and villains alike.

Geography

Lorach is one of the largest islands in Tamatarux, sharing much of the same geology as the Primeval Desert. However, the howling peaks trap much of the rain coming from the West allowing for a more diverse range of ecosystems. Lorach can be separated into five regions:

The Bleeding Plains

The Bleeding Plains make up the bulk of eastern Lorach and is deceptively inviting: Tall swathes of rusty colored grass loom as tall as a wagon, rustling with every passing breeze. At its back, the Howling peaks lurk on the horizon. However, ever since the Lorach Incident, the grass has taken a bloodier tinge, pools of bubbling Demons Blood now seep from the ground corrupting anything that draws near. Beasts go in, demons come out. These twisted [Bloodspawn] stalk the grassland, making traversal treacherous. Worse still, these pools seem to come from the Blood Crag, a gargantuan ravine at the heart of the fields. it has always been shrouded in darkness, but now it is guarded by the Goblinoids who have built fortifications along its edge, guarding the source of the blood. It seems they have turned to serve a darker power.

The Abyssal Mire

To the west of the Bleeding Plains and South of the Howling Peaks, the Abyssal Mire seeps its muck into the land. Though the mire was far from charming before the Incident, smelling of rot and guarded by walls of vine and plants, it has become more alive. Oily waters hold an unbearable stench; jet black trees with swirling trunks hold the canopy with their boney hands. Within, Shambling Mounds & slothful demons lie, bending the plants to bring prey to the heart of the swamp. Threats come from the waters, and from within every plant.

The Howling Peaks

The Howling Peaks was where the invasion was pushed back by the Knight Triumvirate, and where it was brought to a close with the death of the Demon Lord of Carnage, Yeenoghu. Long abandoned fortresses hide amongst the mountains peaks and valleys, holding chill reminders of the Lorach Incident: and of the treasures within. Thrill seekers & Treasure hunters delve into these dungeouns for the powerful demonic artifacts, gold, and power scattered within. These treasures come with guardians though, abandoned war beasts, patient demons, traitors and scavengers of the battlefields. The howls of the dead haunt these mountains, rising with every moon.

The Shimmering Fingers

The western penninsula of Lrach is shrouded in more than one way. from the Shimmering Mountains, the older end of the Howling Peaks, fogs of spirits rise to the heavens, singing & wailing in the end. at the very edge sits The Citadel, where the Deep Federation holds power. The city is built of exotic material traded from beyond the Material Plane gleaming in the distance; silvery towers stretching far to sea holding its greatest strength: the Astral Gates. From them, the Deep Federation launches vessels and recieves traders and ambassadors from beyond. The Tieflings proudly hold their place as guardians of the material plane and keepers of these gates. Some worry that this might very well invite another incident like the Lorach Incident...
