The fall of Thirsk

To this day scholars debate long into the night on why the empire fell.

Regrettably the details we have for this period are fragmentary with only a few parchments surviving to the common era.   To make the job harder the documents that have survived are contradictory at best with some scholars talking of all dwarves in the empire disappearing in a single day in a flash of arcane light. Still others speak of the dwarves voting to leave the shores of Talor and travel South to some unknown land.   This confusion of sources has led to the fall of the Empire of Thirsk, the first to span the continent being viewed by the common folk as an act of the Gods to punish the hubris and folly of the Dwarves in believing they could build an Empire fit to rival the Gods themselves.   Currently among scholars of history the Empire is held up as a golden age in Talor's history when learning and freedom of expression were prized and widespread with accepted theory for its fall being that a deadly variant of Dwarf Rot was released by miners working in the Golden Spire leading to a plague that would have started among the Empire's leadership crippling it from within.
