Shadow of the Misophist - Session 0 - Clash of the Elementals

General Summary

Invited by the famed adventurer Sani Eglain to witness the Night of the Flawed Dawn in the town of Waterdeep where for one month of the year stars fall from the sky into the blue mountains beyond.   Discovering that the falling stars were the cover for an invasion from the elemental plane of fire the group was attacked in the town square by a fire elemental that had landed off course from the main invasion.   During the fight Sani was injured but told of stories in the town of a similar invasion centuries ago which had been inscribed on the central pillar of a bardic circle nearby.   Travelling through the south side of the Prickling Forest the group came upon the circle surrounded by a moat of unpassable water. In a moment of brave foolishness the dwarf Andre Boldwin drank from the water finding it quote “not fresh”. After deciphering the riddle of the runes and speaking the password the group were allowed entry into the circle by a causeway appearing through the moat. There they were presented by a puzzle that required all three present to place their trust in Beira the water queen and were presented with items to help in their journey   The Necklace of Nuut a druidic item that granted great perception to its wielder, a ring of spell storing that allowed its user to cast spells beyond those they knew by heart and finally the famed Blood Saber a beautifully crafted weapon from a more civilised age that allowed its wielder to strike their enemies and reclaim some of their life force upon the kill.   With this Beira granted the group a vision of the past invasion and transported them to her chambers where they were to prove their cunning and willingness to sacrifice for one another in pursuit of a common goal.   Having passed these tests the group were allowed an audience with Beira where she told the adventurers that she was proud they had once again proven their worth showing them a vision of the previous invasion where they had helped defeat Shango the Fire King.   Knowing how to defeat the invasion the group travelled with Beira to the town square where their adventure had started in order to use the Staff of Ice to open the portal to the elemental plane of water and wash the invasion away.   Seeing that Shango was more prepared this time for her attack Beira told the group to go and place the staff in the fountain at the centre of the square while she held off the fire king.   Passing the staff to the old druid Rashal Beira proceeded to attack Shango with her dying breath wounding fire elemental enough that in an epic fight across the town square the great High Elf Sorcerer Astraea was able to kill the Fire King when using her natural draconic resistance she passed through the Wall of Fire that surrounded the Fountain and struck Shango with three Magic Missles of force, shattering the king into ash. As he dies Shango tells the survivors that he is simply the herald of a greater fire that will consume the world   Seeing the Wall of Fire dissipate with Shango’s death the group took the opportunity before the remainder of the Fire King’s army came in to ram the staff into the fountain opening the portal to the elemental plane of water. In this last effort the group were killed by the force of the water but restored to life by the grace of Beira the Water Queen working through her avatar Sani Eglain.
