Tiorathan Steel

Summary

Tiorathan Steel is famed worldwide for it's durability, strength and surprisingly low weight. It is considered by most Smith's to be the strongest non-magical alloy to have ever been conceived. It is strong, durable and light, making it perfect for use in forging the weapons and armor of the Tiorathan Hierarchy. Emerging prior to the first age, Tiorathan Steel was the first Imperial Iron alloy. It is a dark gunmetal grey in coloration.

Crafting

The Tiorathans keep the creation process of this alloy a closely guarded secret, although small parts of the process have been successfully replicated outside of Tiorath (resulting in numerous inferior replicas, and only a few genuine contenders). The Alloys makeup has changed little since it's creation, however the process of creating the material has become more efficient with time.   It is made by alloying Imperial Iron with multiple 'lesser' metals and a small amount of refined iron. True Tiorathan steel objects are heat-treated within large industrialized kilns after being made into their final shape, giving them even greater strength.

Uses and users

Tiorathan Steel is utilized to forge the blades of the Tiorathan Hierarchy's military, and on occasion enough is gathered for larger, specialized projects. Despite being optimal for armor few full suits were made due to the material cost, however it was often added in small quantities to suits of armor forged for captains and other high-ranking Tiorathan armor.   A modified variation of Tiorathan Steel would emerge from the war between Tiorath and the northern Seltien kingdoms. The metallurgists of Tiorath that had been stationed in hyeros found that by infusing the Tiorathan Steel with crushed thought stone the result would be a stronger, magically active material that they dubbed Blackened Tiorathan Steel.   The most famous uses of Tiorathan Steel were the forging of Thennon Tiorath's armor (one of the few full suits ever made) and the creation of the Stone-render cannons at the end of the first age.

History

Tiorathan Steel was originally crafted by the blacksmiths of the former kingdom of Holruun for use in their war against the united kingdoms of Tiorath, the precursors of the Tiorathan Hierarchy. After Thennon Tiorath's successful conquest of Horuun production of the material would increase steadily, and eventually became the alloy of choice for constructing the blades used by the Tiorathan army.
