Chorok

DESCRIPTION

The Chorok is a horrific entity found in the most isolated reaches of Tor'Saarn. Believed to have been forged by the Titan-Minds by corrupting individuals of the race known as the Arcai'aan, the Chorok is monstrous and cruel. Chorok take the form of a colossal creature with a long, serpentine body and a scaled, Stoney hide. Young adult Chorok are typically 100-120 meters long, with the largest and most ancient adults often reaching upwards of 280 meters long.   Their scales vary from a deep grey to obsidian black, and bares the appearance of craggy stone. Underneath these scales is a crystalline skin that emits a color that varies from deep blue to dark violet in males and deep orange to a dark crimson in females. Their open mouths and five eyes emit the same colors as their skin, albeit more brightly. The first and largest of it's eyes sits on it's forehead, and emits a bright light. The monster's other eyes rest on the sides of it's long head, are thin and long, and emit much less light than the eye on the beast's forehead.   Above their heads is a bony crest that sweeps behind their head and can be lowered to allow the creature to slip bellow low arches and through caves. This crest peaks in the center and takes the appearance of a small volcanic mountain, and in places the glowing underskin can be seen in veins on this crest.   The creature has four jaws, each of which contribute to it's long maw. It's four jaws are lined with teeth that point backward, preventing prey from escaping it's bite. These teeth are slightly venomous, and make use of a paralyzing agent. On the outside center of each jaw is a tube-like structure that sprays a highly reactive fluid which can be ignited by the monstrosities elemental breath.   They possess six arms, three on each side. These arms emerge from a pair of shoulders below the neck on each side of the body, bisecting into three arms at the first elbow, leading to a short stretch of arm that leads down to a second elbow and a long forearm. The upper and lower arms on each side posses one hand each, ending in three long fingers tipped with razor like claws. The middle arms on each side end in a pair of hands with six fingers each, that when closed interlock to form pods capable of entrapping and constricting their prey.   Their body is bulkiest and most muscular toward the front, with a somewhat thick midsection that tapers off into a thin tail with razorlike crystalline spines protruding from the flanks of the tail. The creatures muscular body means it is adept at slithering, and it glides across even the roughest terrain with ease, despite it's weight.   Where most living things are lightly acidic the Chorok's body is extremely alkaline, and it's blood can melt through most acid-resistant materials. It's stomach possesses an even stronger alkaline fluid, which neutralizes any acids it ingests. On occasion these creatures belch this substance on their targets when they feel threatened, however they rarely choose to do this as it is difficult to replace.

BEHAVIOR

These creatures live solitary lives in the farthest reaches of Tor'Saarn, and it is believed that the bulk of the population lives in the cave systems beneath the seas between east Tor'Saarn and The Stranded Easts. Although capable of living on land they are most often encountered in the straits between Tor'Saarn and Bevrasten by sailors and merchants travelling the sea.   The Chorok is territorial by nature and will fight over the massive cave structures that make up it's home, and a single Chorok can control a territory stretching many kilometers. The only time these creatures allow another one of their kind to enter their territory is to breed, during which time a male and female find a neutral cave system, in which the female lays between 10-30 eggs which the male then fertilizes, and the pair go their separate ways after burying them underneath many layers of stone. The hatching young are over 5 meters long, and have to fend for themselves from their first day.   Up until adulthood at the age of 38-40 they grow 2.5-3 meters per year, slowing to a growth rate of 0.5-0.75 meters a year after reaching adulthood, though their growth rate will slow further or even halt when food or space is scarce. The younger members of these species suffer predation from a number of subterrainien predators, including adults from the same species whos territories the younglings often unknowingly intrude. Due to this predation only a handful of Chorok younglings reach the age of five years of age, and it is rare for even a single member of any one batch to reach adolescence (20-37).   However once a Chorok reaches adulthood it becomes a powerful apex predator, becoming more bold and seeking large prey both above and below their homes in search of prey. They typically seek large living prey, but seem to delight in attacking sentient beings. They have a particularly strong taste for the humans who share the blood of Sar'aan, The Titan minds greatest adversary, and the Kiari whose existence greatly insults the Titan-minds as their role as healers in The Astral Crusade allowed those who the Titan-Minds had marked for death to continue the war against them.
