Khaydarin crystals are organic crystals that are typically azure or amethyst in appearance. They are reactive to the brainwaves of sapient species, often leading them to be considered 'magical'.

Khaydarin crystals are about as hard as sapphire, though they are not utilized for their durability. Rather, it is their psycho-reactive traits, that is the ability to react to the thoughts of living organisms. They also make great energy capacitors. Furthermore, they sometimes possess the ability to levitate when enough 'charge' is stored
Origin & Source
They grow out of sand, rapidly converting deserts and beaches into strange crystalline fields.
History & Usage
History
The exact origins of the crystals are unknown. They seem to have oddly spread throughout the galaxy, carried by meteors, approximately 80 million years ago. Since then a number of races have utilized them.
The Demiurg are an older race of silicon-based life forms that recklessly integrated Khaydarin crystals into their own biology and technology. Their religious obsession with the material has brought them into conflict with a number of species over the ages, such as the Skapari around 2500 BCE.
In recent years the Eredar were discovered on a planet teaming with the crystals, who had built their civilization around them. The crystals were in turn traded with the Vorheimta and used against the Nisser in the Battle of Rodull.
