Session 19 Recap: "Mournful Histories"
General Summary
Safe for the moment among the Tiri Kitor, Fortune's Favored decides to take the time until their departure to explore the druidic settlement. While most of the encampment were temporary tent structures, there were a few more permenant structures nestled at the base and in the boughs of the massive trees within the settlement. A temple to Shalandor and a number of druids in the middle of their worship drew their attention, as the party was met by the cleric, Illian Snowmantle. A warm, but wary welcome awaited them as they asked a number of questions of him, including if they might have permission to browse the Tiri Kitor's library. They were told such permission would need to be given by Trellara Nightshadow, the elven woman they had met in the Speaker's chambers mourning the news of her fallen brother.
When she met with the party, she came dressed for war, not mourning prompting the group to invite her to eat with them as they enjoyed the druid's hospitality. Through the tension in the room, the group learned about the history of the druids, their isolation within Edenia, the work of the Keepers of Eth, as well as the reason behind the banishment of Alariwyn who had not just been one of them, but had been destined to one day become their Speaker herself as she had turned from her path to learn from none other than the Ghost Lord himself. As the meal and conversation turned to the gods, it became a heated point of debate both with Trellara and within the party itself, and ended with no real resolution. Yvonne, seeing a great deal of her own recent struggles in the druid, insisted on dragging her out to the Tiri Kitor's training grounds. Despite Trellara's initial hesitation, Yvonne's insistance finally broke the druid's facade and into the grief laying beneath it all, until her strength gave out and she was at last borne away by the other druids to rest for the evening.
Verna and Xerren stayed behind to explore the library with permission, Verna taking the opportunity to speak with Illian about the bite she'd recieved from Jarret just that morning. Upon unwrapping it, they were both stunned to see how the wound had festered in such a short period of time, and only after researching through a number of books did he finally deduced she had become afflicted by Darakgul Fever, though how serious the progression was or how long it would be before she began exhibiting more serious symptoms he wasn't sure. Only that she would need the aid of a more powerful healer than himself with a greater restoration spell than he could manage to help her overcome it. The news was met with concern by the rest of the party, but with a lack of options to treat it for now, they decided to press on with their plans with the intent on getting Verna to Crimsonwich and a healer who might be able to help.
As dawn broke, Trellara agreed to join the party into the Black Fens and journey to the Ruins of Restalor with them as they sought out the Silent Dark encampment. She offered the group some history on the former city that had once stood there prior to the Second Calamity, and it's downfall by the hordes of attacking goblins and the defender's impossible choice to flood the city to destroy them all. It didn't take them long to find signs of occupation upon their arrival, groups of lizardmen and other creatures dotting the area in a rough perimeter and guarding several swamped building in the center. As they watched and waited for nightfall, they spotted the shape of the rumored black dragon taking to the skies, and the elven figure presumed to be Seraphina Shadowveil emerging from one building.
Stealing a boat to sneak closer to the probable dragon's lair in it's abscence, the party plans it's invasion before they are noticed by the guards all around them...
