City States of Eclidia

Location

Nestled on the fringes of theĀ Empire of Reikfell, the city-states of Elcidia stand as independent gems under the nominal control of the towering Empire, divided by the formidible Weishan Mountain range to the West.

History

Although tethered by a loose thread to the power of Reikfell, they follow their unique path, as the waves of autonomy ripple across the patchwork of their city-states. This relationship, a dance of power and sovereignty, is unforced, bearing the testament to the subtle influence of Reikfell.

Current Day

At the heart of Elcidia lies the vibrant city of Baewic, a thriving metropolis and vital hub of commerce, its bustling ports welcoming traders from far and wide along the Elcidian Sea. The city's hustle and bustle disguise a deeper, more profound identity - Baewic is the cradle of the Darklaws, a formidable monster hunting organization birthed from the ashes of the Dawnspire's surviving members. Rising like a beacon over the city's rooftops stands the Etronis Tower, an architectural marvel and home to the esteemed Archmage of Conjuration, Zerama Etronis. An eminent figure from Reikfell's prestigious Conservatory of the Arcane, her presence here brings a touch of the mystical and extraordinary to the everyday life of Baewic. Her sorcerous dealings, ranging from the mundane to the magical, imbue the city with an undercurrent of arcane energy and weave an intriguing tapestry of mystery and magic around it.   Amidst this enthralling tableau, Nikolai Goodmane, a man of ancient lineage and legendary tales, stands as a monumental figure. A revered veteran of the Dawnspire in its glory days, he now leads the Darklaws, his wise counsel and commanding presence offering guidance and strength. However, the day-today supervision of this formidable group falls to his lieutenants, the towering goliath Damon Barheart, and the enigmatic tiefling, Lapis Lazalus. This trio of leaders, each bearing their unique strengths, lends the Darklaws a diverse and potent combination of talents, ensuring that the streets of Baewic and the city-states of Elcidia remain safe, both from the shadows of the night and the powers that be.

Geography and Climate

Resting in the shadow of the mighty Weishan mountains, the lands of Elcidia bask in a more temperate and forgiving climate than their northern neighbor, the Empire of Reikfell. Shielded from the worst of the harsh weather patterns by the natural bulwark of the mountains, Elcidia enjoys a cooler and more stable weather system, providing a welcome respite from the perpetual struggle against the elements that characterizes life in Reikfell. The vast Elcidian Sea, to the east, plays its role in shaping the region's climate as well, occasionally ushering in swirling storms that batter the coastline and inland areas. These tempestuous episodes, though infrequent, remind the inhabitants of Elcidia of the raw power of nature, even as they bask in the relative tranquility of their daily lives.   Eastward of the formidable Empire of Reikfell, the city-states of Elcidia unfurl across the landscape, enjoying a more temperate and forgiving climate. These lands lie protected by the Weishan mountains and the aptly named fortress, "The Bulwark," a mighty Reikfellian stronghold that stands guard over the only gap in this natural wall. The Weishan mountains act as a formidable shield, absorbing the brunt of extreme weather patterns and providing Elcidia with a more stable, cooler climate. However, the region isn't immune to nature's whims entirely, as occasional storms whirl in from the nearby Elcidian Sea, reminding inhabitants of the omnipotent power of the elements.   The farther one travels eastward, away from the sheltering Weishan mountains and deeper into Elcidia, the potential for harsher weather conditions increases. Yet, the denizens of these lands possess an inherent resilience and tenacity, unyielding in the face of nature's trials and thriving amidst their region's unique blend of tranquility and turbulence.
