The Grimlock Chieftain

After taking only a few minutes for Kaszu to repair his spider. The Topknots decided to move ahead. Kaszu had his defender climb up to the grimlock lair, which turned out to be a communal living cave. More than a half-dozen grimlocks rested there along with a few of the warrior types, the scalphunters. As Kaszu's spider held the gap, Crichton climbed up, moved past the spider and breathed fire, catching a few grimlocks in the cone. Kaszu shook his head and muttered something about staying behind the strider. Still the spider was able to deflect several attacks from Crichton. From the lower chamber, Malakai blasted with his chill touch while Kaszu attacked with his crossbow. Argan marked one of the grimlock scalphunters and got in a great shot with his longbow while Tolman finished that one off with his bow. Crichton took another grimlock down while Kaszu felled another with his crossbow. Malakai started targeting the last of the scalphunters as the common grimlocks fell to the companions. While the scalphunter got a good shot in at the spider, soon the grimlocks had all fallen.
Taking a few minutes to search through the various mounds of bedding, the Topknots decided to take a short rest in the communal cave as Kaszu finally began to identify some of the magical items they had picked up along the way.
After recovering a bit, the Topknots moved to the second ledge-cave. Here they found the grimlock chieftain with two female grimlocks. As they moved in, the grimlock popped down a large mushroom and staggered to his feet. Although he seemed somewhat out of it, the mushrooms didn't seem to impeded his combat ability. Crichton got in the first slash as the chieftain had difficulty getting through Crichton's armor. Soon all of the companions had climbed into the chieftain's cave, and with Argan and Crichton standing toe-to-toe with the chieftain, the rest of the companions focused their fire on the grimlock leader. When one of the female grimlocks attacked Malakai, he countered with his shillelagh and struck the grimlock down. Tolman finally lined up the killing shot on the chieftain, with the help of his companions' distractions. The other female attacked Crichton, who deeply wounded her in one shot, Argan finished the job.
Out of spells and exhausted, the companions returned to the Citadel of Hextor, protected by Delilah and decided to rest.
