Research a Spell or Formula
Another way casters can enhance their spell book is by conducting their own research. The researcher needs access to an appropriate library and research laboratory. Arcane characters need access to a magical repository, Divine characters need access to a Reliquary and Altar, and Primal characters need access to a Habitat (or Greenhouse) and Altar.
Researching a spell takes as much time and energy as scribing a spell of the same level. Cantrips cannot be researched. At the end of the research period, the caster adds the spell to his spellbook.
Casters who wish to research a unique spell (or perhaps bringing a spell from previous editions into the game) should work with the DM to define the parameters of the spell before beginning the research. The DM has final say on the effects and level of the new spell.
