Kinnery

Farmlands and rolling meadows stretch before you. Small clusters of trees bound up from the land here and there, and dotting the landscape are occasional farm houses and cottages. The nearby river gently fills the air with sound of running water. A large hill divides the horizon in half, the road you travel leading straight to a pair of towers at its base. Dozens of houses encircle the hill at half its height, with dozens more lining its crest. Dominating the top of the hill is a circular palisade with the unmistakable peaks of longhouses jutting up above the enclosure. The bustle of the village’s residents becomes louder as you approach.     Kinnery was founded over a hundred years ago as a farming community, the residents building their longhouses upon the hill due to its strategic value overseeing the river and to defend against the then-common kobold raids. As the years passed, more villagers built their homes and shops upon the hill, until the village became what it is today.     Kinnery is the center of the Valkheim province of Sorovia, long since ruled by Clan Yngvi. Yngvi has held the position of High-Jarl quite a few times in the history of Sorovia, and is sometimes called the "Clan of Kings"     Aegilsgaard winters in Valkheim, and Jarl Gunnar holds more influence than Kelda during that time. The fact that Aegilsgaard is allied with Yngvi makes this less of a concern than it might be.

Demographics

Population: Approximately 1,300. The majority of this populace resides on the large hill, while the rest is dispersed around a large area of farmland.   Demographics: Human (Damaran and Nar) (96%), Halfling (3%), Other races (< 1% each).

Government

The village is overseen by Jarl Kelda Yngvi, who has final authority on Kinnery's and Valkheim's laws and financial matters. She has employed Reeve Alexandros Faell to settle civil disputes, collect taxes, oversee the village guard, and act as sheriff.

Defences

A small guard patrols the jarl's longhouse, commerce area, and main streets of Kinnery. The size of the guard fluctuates, but is generally never exceeds two dozen men. An attacker who sees this as a weakness would be in for quite a shock, however, as every many woman and older child of Kinnery can pick up an axe or sword to defend the town.

Industry & Trade

Kinnery generates most of its income from trade; though the majority of its residents are farmers or craftsmen that keep the community and economy stable. Kinnery benefits from the Icelace River sweeping down from Narfell and several roads that lead to it, often bringing traveling merchants with more esoteric goods for trade.
