Daintree

The city on the western island, the only city left standing after the quakes that destroyed Kaladar.   The last bastion of not just a people but also a whole Kingdom. When the world changed with the great quakes and the whole of the southern continent was swallowed by sea Daintree was the five square miles of untouched earth. Now an island surrounded by the raging torment of the Grey Fissure and its unpredictability this Island Kingdom stands independent of all councils, governments, and governing.   A free city in a free sea is how most of the residents of Daintree see it. Do not mistake-free for unlawful though, justice on the island is harsh and swift, metered out by Order of Dains a police force that started out as a military unit in times lost to history. The Order is hard but fair, though those traveling to Daintree should read up on laws here as they are strange and convoluted in some instances.   The rock walls made from stone dredged from the ocean or harvested from atolls in the nearby sea have been used some 100 years ago to construct the walls that arise within merely a couple of hundred feet of the sea on all sides. The only opening in this city enclosed is to the south where the port of the city allows visitors and trade access to what is in every other way a perceived fortress.   The multilevel construction within the walls means that even though from the outside it seems a fortress it is in fact a city built within a man-made mountain of stone with the richest among the people of Daintree living almost level with the top of the outer walls. Level after level winds up from sea filling the sky with rows of buildings. Colorful flags fly and are hung across all of the city. The city of Daintree always seems like it is in the throws of a raging party.
