The Cevantian Report

The Report

The Cevantian Report has quite a group of respectable messengers and reporters, but it has become a coverup for an association of spies who trade secrets in recent years, and their existence is barely suspected by the populace at large. The Cevantian Report's secrecy is both best weapon and its best defense, and much of the guild's work is hidden even from other members. Reporters involved with this side of the guild leave no trace of their covert activities, warping the memories of witnesses and even wiping their own minds to remove any evidence of their completed assignments.   The first guildmaster of The Report was a smart man named Zek, whose organization agreed to serve as Cevantia's couriers, information brokers, and librarians. But Zek also used his guild's expertise at gathering information to build a vast spy network, and before long, the secret operations of the guild nearly equaled its overt ones. Eventually the rumors of spies in the shadows disappeared, and most Cevantians came to doubt its existence. Unfortunately, Zek wasn't careful enough and was arrested in the Kingdom of Crucan for the rest of his life.

Inside the Guild

They have a clandestine aspect hidden from all but its most important members. The guildmaster, Kirin, and his direct contacts guide and manipulate the covert operations of the guild. Members involved in espionage ultimately receive their orders from this source without having any idea of who issued the order or why. Messages to agents are funneled through thought strands and telepathic couriers. By design, they don't have much interaction with other members of the guild. They might never meet their primary guild contact face to face, instead receiving assignments and sending reports by way of secret message drops and codes. Those not involved with the shadowed activities of the Cevantian Report, act as normal messengers do and spread the information between the lands. Often personal letter's and mail are given to these members to deliver to it's destination as quickly as possible.

Goals of the Cevantian Report

The Report is all about making sure information is spread out and delivered quickly, but a subsect of the Report deals with secrets. Every self-proclaimed expert with an opinion on the matter has a theory about the guild's intentions, and all those guesses about motivations and pursuits contradict each other, frustrating any attempt to get to the truth of things. The public face of The Report remains inscrutable, which some interpret as the best evidence that the guild's true plans mean something dire for the populace.   To the guild, knowledge is power. The guild strives to make it so that information is delivered as safely and quickly as possible. However, the guild holds its own secrets tightly, because it doesn't want any potential enemies to turn the tables. They both act in broad daylight and lurk in the shadows, methodically gathering the knowledge they need.

Foreign Relations

Has a positive relationship with most of the Nations of Cevantia, however that changes depending on the story being sold to the populace and whether it is positive or negative.
