Respite

Respite is a small town on the edge of the Brightwood, resting on the shore of Saviour Lake. It was once a simple camp and supply storage of food and and resources for those who had traversed Death's Way, but as more and more people had to make the journey through Death's Way, it became a permenant town. It was not originally called "Respite"- though at the camp, there stood a stone sign with the world "RESPITE" carved into it. This was simply to let travellers know it was a place to rest, and in time, this became the town's name.

History

Once Respite was named an official town some fifty years after it began operating as a camp, the town was granted its own Crownsguard, and the little hamlet began to flourish. The addition of a tavern known as Saving Grace Inn kickstarted business, and since then, the town has gained some permanent residents as well as a general store and a variety of speciality adventuring shops. Since the addition of the Railroads, and the commercialisation of air-travel, business has dropped off, as people are no longer braving Death's Way to cross the country like they used to. The town still has a lot of market appeal as a tourist attraction, and it has since increased its real estate prices, due to the comfortable nature of the climate in the area.

Population

Respite is populated mostly by humans, people of wood elf blood, and people of mixed orcish blood. This mix of culture comes mostly from the fact that the original guard here consisted mostly of specialised Rangers under the Crown, and many orcish mercenaries made their home here to offer their assistance to travellers planning on braving the road.

Religion and Tradition

Respite has never had a church. Of note though, is the shrine in the centre of Saviour Lake. The statue is of unknown origin, and is thought to date back to the First Age. It depicts a god or deity-type figure that appears to resemble a large dog.
