Tthe Exterminators finally make their way back to the dining room. As they start towards the stairs up, they hear a strange, ghostly humming and the door from which they entered closes on its own.

Zor'ahn opens the door to the office of the ghoul tattooist only to see that it is filled with Cult of the Canker cultists. He shuts the door.
Ehrn rages and waits, and Kaliff casts bane in preparation. The door opens once again and the first cultist points to Zor'ahn and states, "You will be the start to a new canker." It fires a phantom pain on Zor'ahn. Another gazes at him to no effect before slashing at him. The door at the end of the hallway opens and but the newcomer misses with his attack. Kalitos moves into the room. Tristan moves in as well and attacks a cultist. It counters his attack but misses with its own. It eats a miniscule amount of flesh that seems to rejuvenate it. Zor'ahn moves into position and cuts down the first cultist.
Another ghoul enters from the west and targets Tristan. The fighter seems movement of another still within the room as a wave of pain washes over him. Ehrn strides into the room and skewers one with her glaive. Kaliff moves past the lone cultist and commands Thud to attack him. Its eyes widen in absolute shock as the one time Canker begins slamming it. Another cultist launches at Zor'ahn, but misses wildly. Kalitos tumbles through into the small adjoining room, slashes at one cultist and trips another. Tristan cuts another ghoul down, followed quickly by Zor'ahn. One of the remaining cultist walks into the room and tries to cast a spell at Ehrn, but Tristan punishes it mightily, disrupting its intent.
The prone one attempts to muster an attack and scores a glancing blow at Kalitos. Ehrn cuts another and moves up and smashes a fist into the prone one. Thud slams his slab of a fist into his target. Kaliff fires an electric arc. Kalitos recharges and strikes again as well. Tristan moves to support Thud and puts it on the ground. Zor'ahn tumbles past the remaining cultist and cuts it down. The expiring ghoul looks up to Thud and chocks out, "Why?" The Once-Canker merely puts his enormous foot on the cultist's head and pushes, pulverizing it into a sticky, bony jelly.

Wrin Sivinxi has set up a pup tent and as the party approaches, Wrin says cheerfully, "So good to see everyone!" However, the party is only able to greet her wearily.

On the walk back to town, Zor'ahn updates Wrin about their various encounters and about the ghost of Otari and his plea.. Upon arriving, the Exterminators see that the townspeople wearing ribbons of black of various fashion and that a number of funerals have already taken place. It is a surreal reminder that life has continued on in the last two days since Founder's Day, something the party feels almost removed from.
The Ricards return home to check on their family, and Ehrn's mother tells him that Amache, daughter of Carman Rajani, has been babysitting. Yesterday, his mother saw that Amache had quite a shiner on her face. When asked about it, Amache said that she had a dust up with her father. He had been drunk at the time. Afterwards, the smith passed out and did not open the shop, Blades for Glades, that morning.
