7th-level Spell: Beckon Soul

High Magic (Necromancy)

You touch a creature that has died within the last 24 hours and whose soul has begun to sink deep within the Spirit Realm. If its soul is free and willing, the target returns to life with all its hit points. This spell can’t return to life a creature that has died of old age and that isn’t Undead.

This spell neutralizes any poisons and cures normal diseases afflicting the creature when it died. It doesn’t, however, remove supernatural diseases, curses, and the like; if such affects aren’t removed prior to casting the spell, they afflict the target on its return to life. This spell also closes all mortal wounds and restores any missing body parts.

Coming back from the dead is an ordeal. The target gains the Tainted condition and takes a −4 penalty to all attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks. Every time the target finishes a long rest, the penalty is reduced by 1 until it disappears.

Restrictions:

You can only revive those with a strong soul, such as auramancers, council members, and player characters. Any normal soul after dying would already be too far beyond your reach.

Souls in Vaxus and Resurrection:

  • When a person dies, that person's soul begins to move into The Beyond. The entrance into The Beyond is located somewhere deep within the Spirit Realm, far deeper than anyone has ever explored and returned from. When a soul moves into The Beyond there is no way to resurrect them, for not even the gods could reach them.
  • Not everyone when they die immediately starts moving into The Beyond. If the person made a deal with a Sword or Pentacle, they are instead sent to the Underworld and are spiritually bound within, with a contract laying claim to their soul. It is still possible for that soul to move into The Beyond, but they must actualize that within themselves (recognize that they can move beyond their current circumstances), but despair or madness often robs them of this fact. If, while down there, they are to become a Pentacle themselves, then their ability to move on is void.
  • There are fables that tell of a city hidden from the gods deep within the Spiritual Realm full of souls that have refused to move on. Stories of that fabled place are conflicting however. Some say that it is a city full of timeless wonders and wisdom; others say that it is a city of untold terrors and fright, for when one is hiding from the gods, all manners and extremes are taken to stay hidden from them, no matter the harm or cost.
