STEVE

First named in 2016, STEVE has become far more common since that time. When evaluated by science, see WIKI notes, this appears to be a naturally occurring phenomenon within the bounds of science. What has since been discovered is that magic was returning and that STEVE is a natural formation in combination with magic. In essence it is a magical wave that travels from places with high magical density to places with less magical density. Like seeing a rainbow, seeing STEVE is considered lucky, and it is quite a beautiful sight. It is also welcome because it means that your area is either high, or low in magic and that STEVE is restoring the balance.   Over the years, scientists and magicologist have still not been able to predict STEVE's appearance. They can describe whys and hows but not whens. Some people are so enthusiastic with the search to understand that we have STEVE chasers who do nothing but rush to STEVE sightings to try to take measurements. There are also those who attempt to tap the flow of magic and store it, with minimal success as STEVE will generally change path to avoid anything which might tap its magic potential.
STEVE ("Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement") is an atmospheric optical phenomenon that appears as a purple and green light ribbon in the sky, named in late 2016 by aurora watchers from Alberta, Canada. According to analysis of satellite data from the European Space Agency's Swarm mission, the phenomenon is caused by a 25 km (16 mi) wide ribbon of hot plasma at an altitude of 450 km (280 mi), with a temperature of 3,000 °C (3,270 K; 5,430 °F) and flowing at a speed of 6 km/s (3.7 mi/s) (compared to 10 m/s (33 ft/s) outside the ribbon). The phenomenon is not rare, but had not been investigated and described scientifically prior to that time. STEVE
