Magic Circle | Inner Circle Organization in Tales from the Rookery | World Anvil

Magic Circle | Inner Circle

The public is aware of the Magic Circle  as an organization which does magical research and innovation. They subsidize many magical schools and classes in public schools to help evaluate youth for magical potential. They have mentorship and internship programs to assist in the spread of magical knowledge. They have invented, and have patents on, many magical tools.    They are well known as the inventors of the magical pen which will write what you speak. For a slightly higher price it can be bonded to the owner in order to write what they think as well. They also have a spell that will ensure that the pen always finds its way back to you so that it can never really be lost.   On the surface the company does a great deal of good in the world and supports and encourages all in the magical arts.   No one who is not one of the 13 know of the existence of the Inner Circle. The Magic Circle was created as a means of identifying and vetting the skills of those who would later be invited to the Inner Circle. For all the good that the Magic Circle does, it hides the festering corruption of the Inner Circle deep within.   Under the surface there is the leadership of the Magic Circle, the Inner Circle. The inner circle is made up of 13 individuals. Unlike the superstition [see the article on Judas and how his 'betrayal' has been proven to be false], 13 is a lucky number in magic. It is a prime number and odd so that when debates arise there is always a tie breaker. Of course there are other methods to eliminate those who disagree with you and for the Inner Circle nothing is off the table. The Prime, or head of the 13, gets the position by surviving for the longest in the Inner Circle.
