Gargoyles come in many different forms. There are certain basic characteristics; however, which set them apart from other winged humanoids.
Skin
The skin can come in a wide array of earthtones. Any form of 'rock' you can imagine is a possible skin color. The skin has the feel of stone but can feel rough or polished. [Yes, skin polishing is a thing for gargoyles.] For most gargoyles this 'rock' skin is approximately one inch deep. They are not stone throughout. They can be injured and will bleed. They do have a natural advantage in hand to hand combat and some protection against edged weapons. They have a resistence to bullets though there are certain ammunitions that will make short work of them.
Hair
Gargoyles do not have any hair.
Facial Features
Facial features come in a wide variety, just like humans. The faces can be wide or narrow, round or more teardrop shaped. Eyes come in the standard human range of shapes, sizes and colors. The ears tend to be more pointed in nature as one would expect from elves, however they can also take a form that looks more like you would see on a mermain with sevaral points looking more like fins. Nose are also human standard.
Wings
The wings of gargoyles resemble those of bats. They do not have feathers. They come in a single pair and are as tough as the skin, and match the shade of the skin. Like the bat wings they resemble they can come in many forms and sizes. Unlike bats; however, gargoyle wings do not allow for true flight. They are excellent gliders.
Notable Facts
While the gargoyle's skin is tough and thick, it would seem unfortunate that they can only glide. This would be true except that they seem to have a spider's ability to climb just about any surface. That means that if they want to glide, they are perfectly capable of finding the nearest tall object, and climbing to the top in order to get some height for gliding.
