Excalibur in 2085

Excalibur the legendary sword of myth and mystery wielded by the ancient Celtic/Romano Briton warrior King Arthur Pendragon. It was regarded to be nothing more the folklore and superstition. Then in 2057 it came to light in the will of the great dragon Dunklezahn, as it was mentioned as being granted to the enigmatic figure known as Harlequin. That is if it could be found.   Then a rather plain man going by the name Pendragon made his appearance in 2062 at an anti-government protest calling for the removal of the Lord Protector. For the next nine years Pendragon evaded capture by the Lord Protector's Office until in June of 2071 when Queen Caroline disbanded the Office of Lord Protector. Since then Pendragon has not been seen.   Speculation is rampant. Some believe the sword is a mere myth, that it never existed. Others cling to the will of Dunzlezahn and search for it and Pendragon.   2085; a ballerina exercises at the barre while a man watches her from time to time when he glances up from his reading. When the dancer finishes she walks over to him.   "Jacen, you're reading instead of staring inappropriately at me?"   "Hey Gi, um Christy, yeah I'm reading this bit about Pendragon and Excalibur. You think he has the sword?"   "Does Jacen want the magic artifact for himself? Or does he want the reward money?" She smirks.   "You're the most powerful mojo slinger I know, think you or one of your spooky friends can find it?"   "Are you mad? Find a sword in the whole of the country if not the world." She shakes her head. "Though I am indeed powerful and there is nothing She who is Spider does not know."   Several days later under a mid-afternoon sun.   "Jacen it was nice that you got us first class tickets on the overnight in a sleeping cabin, and it was a lovely breakfast and enchanting tour of the Gallery in Truro. But where did you get this rust bucket?"   "Christy it was all that was left. Don't worry it will get us where you told me to go."   The vehicle draws near a roundish lake of deep almost black blue water. Perhaps a mile or so in circumference, it looks as if it were bottom less but is not.    "Christy is this the right place?"   "Jacen never doubt the words of the spirits, they told me to bring you here and here you now are." She walks into the water to sit upon an outcrop of stone, "Go look about,  you are quite safe. Be mindful of the hounds though." Then placing a hand into the water, she smiles as a water spider crawls up her fingers to wrist and dances with bobs and hops for her. It is seemingly in appearance that the girl and spider were talking to one another.   The man began to walk around the lake, looking further upon the shore and then back behind him. Sometimes out towards the center as if expecting something or someone to rise from the inky depths. Yet never straying to far from the girl.    In the briefest of moments when the wind stopped and was entirely still, with the clouds a mirror reflection upon the water of the lake Jacen came upon another man.   Drawing his pistol "Hold it! Who are you?"   With a bright smile, "The Lady of the Lake told  me of your friend's" he nods at Christy "search in the... as you now sat astral space."   Putting his pistol away, "Wait, sorry,  you're the Pendragon?"   With a slight scoff, "What is a name? It served it's purpose and is done. I thought returning the land to the people by removing the Lord Protector would allow me to rest. Yet still I must wait."   "What do you mean, wait?"   "I wait for the enemy. Your lady there has fought the soldiers of the enemy. You know of some, yes?"   With a nod, "Yeah I do. Real nasty creepers."   "Your lady is as beautiful as Gwennever, as dark as Morgen an Spyrys and as clever as Nimue. You must defend her."   Looking at Christy, "She's our little spooky Gigi. But don't let her hear that."   "What is your interest in Excalibur? The Lady of the Lake said that it is on your mind."   "I would just like to see it, maybe hold it. I study the sword. Try my best to be proficient with one. Would make one of my own if I could. Maybe Christy would mojo it up for me somehow."   Nodding sternly, "Then kneel young Jacen."   A slight stumble Jacen kneels, "How did you..." He shuts up.   The sword appears from no where in the hand of The Pendragon. "I knight thee Jacen as Defender of the Realm, Protector of the Britons. Arise and take thee the charge to defend your lady, for, she has the power to turn the tide if she continues on the path she is one. Stay by her side."   Jacen felt the weight of Excalibur on his shoulders, saw the shimmer of the metal glinting in his eye, he even smelt the oil which covered the blade in a fine sheen. Then like the mist both Excalibur and The Pendragon were gone.   Leaving Jacen made his way to Christy, "Done playing?"   "You done doing your boy thing?"   "Sure am, let's get out of here."   As the two left in the old rust bucket of a car, a hand clad in shimmering white sammite rose from the water. "In time, you Sir Jacen will return."
