Coffee Weasel

The Coffee Weasel better known as the Asian Palm Civet is a small to medium sized ferret like tree dwelling creature. Famously or infamously known for the production of the exotic coffee Kopi luwak. The coffee is produced by harvesting the partially digested coffee seeds that have passed through the weasel's digestive tract. Traditionally harvested in the wild increased demand for this trendy product lead to captive farming to increase production. Prices average 30 to 40 Nuyen per cup.   When magic returned at the awakening the weasels developed a trait that caused them to empathically produce a coffee that mirrored the emotional state of those who were handling them at the time. With this discovery the emotional states and moods of the handlers was influenced through psychological conditioning and drugs to either create a variety of new coffee flavors. Marketing gimmicks and advertising to taste everything from A to Z and back again if you cared to do so.   In 2061 when Haley's Comet arrived and the Earth passed through it's tail the weasels mutated into a changeling form. Now they could selectively produce a coffee that gave an actually emotional condition to those who consumed it. Such mischievous little weasels, caused the farmers to do their utmost to ensure that the captive farms were as happy and enriching an environment possible.    Not being content with this several corporations made an attempt through chemistry and genetic engineering to produce a coffee with similar or enhanced effects. Most were ethnical simply wanting to create the same flavor that the weasels produce. Then there were those who were looking to create an addictive high in the consumer. This caused what was termed in the shadows as the Java Coffee war.
