Laketon
Laketon stands on the northern shore of Lake Solvar, where the Sildan River broadens into calm, mirror-like water before winding south into the Eltawin Forest. The largest settlement in the northern reaches, it serves as the administrative and commercial heart of the Solvar Barony—though the baron himself resides across the lake in the smaller village of Solvar. From Laketon’s stone docks and timber piers, barges carry lumber, grain, and smoked fish northward, while trade from the south has slowed to a nervous trickle.
The town is a place of industry and quiet order. Its markets thrive with lake-caught fish, sawmill goods, and the work of skilled boatwrights. The warden of Laketon, Captain Therris Danel, commands the barony’s militia and, in practice, rules the town on the baron’s behalf. He maintains strict discipline, wary of the creeping corruption said to linger further south along the river. Though the forest’s taint does not reach this far, signs of unease grow—boats returning light or not at all, and the night mists whispering across the water.
At dusk, torches light the waterfront, and the town retreats behind its wooden palisades. The people are loyal, pragmatic, and quietly afraid of what may drift up from the Eltawin’s depths. Bargemen swear they’ve seen black-eyed fish and half-submerged shapes gliding under their hulls.
For GMs, Laketon serves as a stronghold of fragile safety: a place of command and commerce surrounded by unease, where the veneer of control begins to crack as the corruption stirs to life once more in the south.
