Emperor theodore's Invasion of France

Military action

2183
2189

France and Britannia for complicated reasons went to war. Emperor Theodore was extremely successful in his invasion of France, capturing Paris, and going on to take much of Western France and parts of French-controlled West Africa. Unfortunately, his successor would give much of the land in France back to France to better relations with the other great powers.

Tensions over the Martian Crusades one decade earlier with the french had built up with conflict over land on Mars as well as Lunar. When French troops crossed the border into a Britannian colony Emperor Theodore would demand the troops withdraw. The Britannian Imperial Regent and a french representative of their king attempted to negotiate a settlement of the border despite. Whether due to his personal dislike of the Allencourt clan leader or a desire for war with the French Emperor Theodore disregarded the treaty agreed upon by the regent.

Because Britannia quickly achieved naval supremacy with its significantly larger navy, Britannia was free to amass a large army of about ten corps or half a million noble mages in England. Naval landings from the channel and orbital drops allowed Britannia to take the city of Calais easily, marking the first time in several centuries an army from England had occupied French territory. Emperor Theodore carried on to defeat the French at Paris and Orleans. With the French badly beaten and the old French king dead, the new king attempted to rally the French army at the Battle of Aquitaine in southwestern France. However, the king was badly beaten by his senior and taken hostage. Eager for conquest, Emperor Theodore negotiated the surrender of much of western France, including the old English duchies of Aquitaine and Normandy and port of Calais as well as some minor colonies.
