Mìrhn

The Mìrhn are an Aggir-speaking ethnic group primarily situated on Shagirrin, but a small group of them occupies the nearly deserted arctic island of Garraine seeking to cleave to its sacrality.   Mirhn believe Garraine is home to giant divine beings that sleep within the earth; a small contingent of priestly types is required to live on the island in order to supplicate them through offerings of food and drink. These gods, as well as the conventions of their worship, fall generally within the pantheon adopted by the rest of Rajan, known as The Old Tradition, although while the Tradition's deities sometimes visit earth and often associate themselves with its elements, they are usually held to abide on a higher plane. Lacking a concept of "sacrilege", non-Mirhn view the concept of embodiment above as an odd quirk rather than counter-doctrinal.   Aside from clergy, only a handful of others have spiritual inclinations profound enough to inspire them to ensure the many challenges of living on such an isolated and inhospitable locale.   It goes without saying that all Mìrhn are a hardy and resourceful people, accustomed as they are to the harsh conditions of the arctic. Skilled hunters and fishermen, they have learned to survive on the meager resources of their island home. Bone is accordingly a popular material for fabricating both useful items and artistic creations, although there is so little trade this far north, the culture's spectacular talent for carving is largely unknown.
