Wayfinder

In Taevas distant past, much of the world remained an unexplored mystery, even during the time of the Mage Empires. It was thus the duty of the Wayfinders to venture out into these far off, unexplored lands, and to chart the furthest frontiers of the known world. With the increase in trade and travel in the current age, and the greater understanding of the wider world that comes with it, this occupation has largely fallen out of practise, with very few Wayfinders left still practicing their craft in the few unexplored places left in the world.

Career

Qualifications

Potential Wayfinders must possess strong survival skills, the ability to work alone for extended lengths of time when needed, a high level of adaptability, and a high level of skill at navigating difficult terrain in a variety of environments. Because of the dangers they were expected to face venturing out into remote, unexplored places, only the most highly skilled candidates were chosen to become Wayfinders.

Career Progression

While there are no ranks among the Wayfinders, seniority is still recognised based on experience, and more experienced Wayfinders were sent on expeditions into more unknown territories than less senior ones.

Payment & Reimbursement

Wayfinders were paid based on the information and/or items they were able to bring back from their expeditions.

Perception

Purpose

In the past, the Wayfinders existed to chart the unexplored frontiers of the world. In the present, they are used mainly to aid in traversing particularly difficult or dangerous terrain.

Operations

Tools

The typical equipment used by the Wayfinders include a bow, a quiver of arrows, travel rations, and survival tools for foraging and setting up camp.

Dangers & Hazards

Since Wayfinders were sent out into the unexplored wild regions of the world, there was always an element of risk in their work, commonly from the environment, wildlife, or some other unforeseeable hazard, magical or mundane.
