The Unread Attelorian Letter of Retreat
The letter a messenger was supposed to deliver to the Attelorian general locked in a Pass-War with Elsmarch’s own general. The letter, which has remained unopened to this day, was delivered but couldn’t be opened before the Alsmage himself, tired of the folly of this war, the reason for which is lost to time, decided to take matter into his own hands and declared the Pass a new Battle Prohibited Zone.
To punish everyone involved for the incredible senselessness of the prolonging of the battle for the pass, the war of which had basically ended anyway, he petrified the corpses of the fallen soldiers of both sides in place, leaving a "monument to what happens when you let stupidity rule your actions."
