Zantera Settlement in Tacillia | World Anvil

Zantera

The city of Zantera was a well-known and frequented settlement Then. Located in a hot climate, the humans who lived mainly in the town built it under the ground. Based on ancient scriptures, the city was a trading center, and it could be reached via multiple stairs and spirals dug into the ground. Comparing its size to human ruins in the Dominion, 5-6000 people lived there.
Unfortunately, the city collapsed during the Rending. Eyewitnesses who escaped the collapse told a terrifying experience similar to those who fled the destruction of other cities. However, their fear was enhanced by the knowledge that it was also the ground that was toppling on them, not just the buildings.
A couple of years back, an expedition found Zantera. They were looking for ancient relics, and while digging, one of their dig sites crumbled and opened to a stair. Their journey down the stair was difficult, but in the end, they reached the lowest level. At that time, they didn't know what they found, but some of the buildings remained intact enough to read the names of companies of them, and later, those companies were identified as merchant houses of Zantera. However, there were a couple of problems with this discovery. They found the stairs among skat'ra hills. There were a handful of tunnels leading away from the city that, without any doubt, were dug by tobzoshkuh. And they found evidence that the town was inhabited. They found strange tools and equipment, signs that somebody had cleared the rubble from the ruins, and only a few days old raw meat. However, they hadn't met anybody. Like the dwellers knew someone was coming, and they hid.
Later expeditions found even more unsettling signs that someone or something lived in the city. They were a couple of places where someone threw together complete skeletons in huge piles. They found many 60-70 centimeters wide holes that led even further down, and one of the explorers was adamant that giant snakes left some of the prints on the ground.
Currently, the hole, the stair, and its outskirts are guarded by protection magic and skat'ra warriors because the queens found it troubling that some unknown entity is living under them, and even tobzoshkuh might be using the city as their assembly point for their swarming.
Weaklings. All of them. They should have sent us to find what is in the city. Now it is cordoned off by the queens. Pathetic oldtimers
