The Lover Monuments

Massive statues erected on either side of Cygia, the only nation in T'sara to touch two continents. Constructed in the middle of the First Age, these statues were created in dedication to those who were torn apart from each other by the Fey Crisis. As the two statues always look upon each other, they carry the hope that all the people's of T'sara may yet be reunited.

History

It was originally intended for the statues to be a couple of great importance, the human warriors that have since been retroactively declared the First Shoguns of Cygia. With their likenesses in heavy dispute, it was decided to abandon that idea. While debates of who would be a more suitable choice, a dissenting opinion arose. They should be inprecise; modeled after a real man and woman, but detached from any specific history or legend, so that all may be able to see themselves in it. This idea won out, and in rare choice, the statues were made to be of a faceless man and a faceless woman.

The statues would be built at the closest possible points on either side of Cygia. Even at their size of almost 300 feet tall, they are difficult to see at such distance from one another.

Significance

Ships traveling through Cygian waters, in bewteen the two continents, may see both of the Lovers on clear, calm days. Seeing them is a sign of good luck and fortune, and it grown to be custom for sailing ships to trim their sails and decrease speed as they pass through between them.
Although the hopes of a reunification of T'sara died even before the end of the First Age, the Lovers are still a strong reminder of the past and ideolized future. Sailors in particular have taken strong value to the statues, remembering the loved ones left behind.

Cygians, for their part, have internalized the ideals of the Lovers Statue in their culture. Despite being fierce and well trained warriors, Cygians are well renowned as being diplomats, arbiters, and advocates of peaceful harmony.
