Imperial Magistrates

Elite members of the Intransican Empire, the Imperial Magistrates are sent across all corners to apprehend the worst offenders of Imperial Law, especially traitors and political dissenters.

Perception

Purpose

The Intransican Empire has grown larger than any other nation in recorded history, and with that, maintaining order has become difficult and costly. Given the magical items needed for immediate transit across the Empire, they are the rapid response force for when local matters swiftly move out of hand of the regional lords. This is most famously, but not exclusively, for protests or riotous dissent. Organized crime spanning across the Imperial provinces, or involved other nations is the more common cause for Magistrate involvement. Unusual crimes, such as serial murder have also brought in Magistrates at times.

Social Status

Magistrates are respected for their capabilities and their effectiveness, but also are feared for much the same reason. Given large authority to deal with problems, they are often exacting and final with their dispension of justice. Suspects apprehended by Magistrates are typically transported to the Imperial City. While the official reasoning is to provide an opportunity for an objective trial by trained judges that are rarely available elsewhere in the Empire, the unspoken reason is more sinister and political. Those taken by Magistrates are usually made an example of to encourage further compliance with the laws.

Demographics

As one of the highest positions within Imperial government, all Magistrates are required to be human. Women are allowed to serve in this capacity as well as men, but there are sparing few among the ranks.

Operations

Tools

The most distinguishing tool of the Imperial Magistrate is in their uniform. The helm, a heavy caste piece of armor that covers most of the face, is magical in nature, allowing the user to transport anywhere in an instant. This power is hampered in that the individual must know the area they intend to go before using the helm's abilities, so a Magistrate would only be able to depart the Empire if they possessed specific knowledge of the location they are going. Imperial propaganda and censorship helps reduce this possibility, though exceptions have been known to happen. Making counterfit helms or trying to replicate the effect of transportation magic into weapons or armor is grossly prohibited in the Empire, making a Magistrate one of the few to hold such power, increasing their renown and reputation.
