Aethothnia

A heavily forested land in the northern reaches of Khilgara, Aethotnia is a relative peaceful strip of land. The king is said to govern fairly and justly, and welcoming to it's neighbors.

Demography and Population

The Kingdom of Aethotnia is predominantly Elvish, but not to such the high degree as other realms such as Bronzebark. Orcs and Goblins frequently enter from the southern border, which is generally left unprotected. The Azexk tribes don't generally acknowledge borders, which means they are doing little wrong intentionally, and are often simply hunting or foraging. Humans also frequently make comfortable homes here, either native or migrating eastward from Stormfall or Tuslutgrania. Dwarves from the east settle hear occassionally, but generally staying close to the coastal settlements.

Territories

At about 230,000 square miles of land, Aethotnia rounds out the top end of the bottom third of nations, by size. With lush forests and fertile land, the nation has a population slightly denser than normal, as it's estimated population of about 725,000 souls brings it squarely middle of the pack. slim coastline along the northern border is just deep enough to allow for ships to travel and trade with it's foreign neighbors, and host a small navy.

The land is mostly a temperate deciduous forest, with hearty trees able to withstand the temperatures of the region. Nearing the northern most part of T'sara, the land can be covered by snow for a long part of the year, which has an affect on mobility and habitation.

Military

The military of Aethothnia is a distant concern. The nation has not faced a major conflict in centuries, not even during the Triumverate War. The military is primarily in place as a precaution, largely serving the purpose of civil patrols to ensure the peace and enforcement of laws. The Aethothnian Royal Navy maintains a few ships of considerable size, mostly to protect trade ships from piracy. They also possess a number of smaller, faster ships, sent out in times of bad weather to try and recover lost ships or Sailors. Though their successes are few, the efforts being spent are seen as a great gesture for the greater community, and what successes do come are widely celebrated.

Foreign Relations

Aethothnia has succeeded where few others have in remaining a generally peaceful nation when so many others are frought with war. Part of the matter comes to climate: any attack or attempted invasion into these lands would have to account for harsh winters that more southern nations have no interest in.

Thankfully, the Azexk seem to have little interest in foreign matters. They merely wish to survive and be left alone, more focussed in provide aid and comfort to their cousins in the Tribes of Krag'ash.

The Tuslutgranian Leage to the West has amicable trade relations, and a friendly relationship with one another. Although the two nations were once one, seperated by a violent civil war in the First Age, the two nations have since come to be good allies and friends. Commoners frequently run rumors that the two nations may try to become one again, but this is complete speculation and fiction. They are also more concerned with the Stormfall Shogunate, the regional powerhouse. The small coastlines provide meaningful access to trade and news, especially when colder weather would normally prohibit travel by land. The King of Aethothnia prides himself on being a trade partner with the Brotherhood of Kazia. Although the goods themselves are a minor benefit, it is more a matter of reputation that an Elven land is able to make trade with the sole nation of sea-going Dwarves in the world.

Education

Aethothnians are some of the most well educated citizens in the continent. Minimal war has permitted a greater portion of the nations wealth to be spent on it's general welfare, including schools and colleges. The cold weather brings communities to be more insulated and introverted, giving greater cause for reading and self improvement of skills.
Of note, it takes great pride in it's schools dedicated to music and performance, with a presitigious academy for song, separate from the Bard's College, which is also featured here.
