Smolderchill, The Split World

It is said that eons ago, an Aberrant God was travelling the cosmos and stopped to rest on a flourishing planet. However, his presence permanently warped the orbit of the planet, forcing one side to permanently face the sun and be scorched into a desert. The other side is forever locked away from the sun's warmth, turning it into an arctic waste. The band around the planet where day and night meet is plagued by an eternal storm of boiling rain mixed with hale and cyclones that seem to patrol the border. At certain times of the year, the Storm Belt will expand to one side or the other, spreading the fresh water and creating smaller, safer storms to collect from (Summer pushes it to the night, Winter pushes it to the day). Both extremes are inhospitable to most life so the vast majority of plants and creatures stay somewhat near the Storm Belt. The primary exceptions are elementals that manifested from the harsh environment and pirates that have built fortresses to hide from the Galactic Confederation of Planets or other pirates.     The inhabitants, long separated, look to the other side with wonder and envy. It is rare for anyone to get to the other side of the Storm Belt but even in those cases, they never survive for long in the opposite climate. With no connection to each other besides glimpses of structures on the other side and the occasional body washed up by the Storm Belt, the peoples called the other by different names: The day-siders call their opposite the White Dunes, the inhabitants are known as the Shade-Blessed as they don't need to contend with the all-consuming sunlight, and the belt is the Twilight Range. The night-siders call their opposite the Golden Tundra, the inhabitants are known as the Thinfed as they seem small yet so many plants seem to grow on the other side, and the belt is the Dawn Peek.
