Worund's Displacement

Although near-entirely unknown amongst the pantheon, Worund's death should not have been able to occur. Garadoc, was a minor deity, considered by most only to be significant by the relation to his mother, Inae'en, and in a much lesser sense, his father Maessus. Although rumours amongst the pantheon had the tumultuous relationship between Inae'en and Maessus as the butt of some jokes in the centuries before Garadoc made his play.   Three things allowed Garadoc the upper hand on the Prime Deity Worund:
  • An alliance with Kinadra, a slowly forgotten Goddess whose birth from two Prime deities should have secured her more influence amongst the pantheon were it not for their deaths during the creation of The Barrier;
  • Garadoc's own procurement of Phastylorr;
  • Worund's inability to believe that Garadoc would attempt to kill him, rather than just displace him.

"Garadoc?" Worund said warmly, the faint hitch of a question at the end of the name. The older God turned towards the new arrival with a questioning smile, dark skin lined and weathered as if the elements had truly touched his form. The man could have chosen to be anyone he wanted, to look like anything he wanted, and he chose an old, beaten-down man. "What brings you here, son?"   Garadoc gave him a thin smile in return. He wasn't his son. The arrogant assumption that many of the Prime's had to take that designation on with that lofty, affectionate tone as if it meant something to be called as such by one of the Prime's was irritating at best. For all that his father was weak, Maessus was the only one to hold that title.   "I had something I wished to show you," Garadoc said, stepping forward into the hut that Worund called his primary residence in this plane. Tiny, rough, lopsided, it looked like one of the early attempts of the Aeshir, not something hewn by divine hands. Why did Worund seek to lower himself so?   Worund turned from the wooden workshop table in the corner of the room, and wiped his hands on his trousers. No streaks were left behind. He gave Garadoc a mildly confused smile. "Alright then."   Garadoc reached behind his back and pulled Phastylorr from the pocket dimension he had placed it within, as Kinadra stepped into the hut to stand behind his right shoulder. Garadoc's skin itched at the feeling of having the goddess at his back.   Worund's smile turned sad, resigned. Pitying, almost. "Kinadra."   The Goddess whose form in this world was dainty and petite looked nervously in Worund's direction, before turning her gaze back to Garadoc.   The God of Nature shook his head slowly. "Garadoc, I am not sure what you intend. You are in my domain. I do not wish to hurt you."   Garadoc's returning smile was a feral one. Rows of sharp, pointed teeth filling his mouth, jaw extending, a macabre combination of serpent and shark, bared in Worund's direction. Phastylorr flashed in his hand and Worund's eyes flashed ever-so-slightly.   The very earth beneath their feet answered his call.
  In the aftermath, Garadoc turned on Kinadra as well. Unbeknownst to Garadoc, his new powers unfamiliar to him and not fully under control, Kinadra wasn't killed but pushed through The Barrier. Her divine powers were left behind, as per the nature of The Barrier, but her essence, her soul remained intact. Kinadra was a paranoid being, and although she had considered herself in love with Garadoc, she had been suspicious of other deities since her parents' deaths. Her essence tethered itself to an Oracle, and she exists half-alive, half-dead sharing a mortal body with a mortal soul.   Rather than completely step into Worund's position, and face the wrath of Worund's brother Taimosragar one of the most powerful beings in the pantheon, Garadoc merely stepped into Worund's plane and took his place - his appearance, his name, his domains, his essence. Worund had been carefully chosen, a loner amongst the rest of the Prime Deities, considered odd, but elsewise harmless, Garadoc would merely have to tread slowly and carefully, while turning Worund's domain to his own.

This is sinister, dark, and delicious. Having the snippet with it really gave context and flavor to the event - I absolutely loved it. Such a sad moment and it definitely shows there's a lot going on here...
