Death Knell

Effect

You draw power from the life force of a dying creature, using it to fuel your own power and potential. When a creature you can see within 30 feet of you dies, you can spend your reaction to draw upon its fading life energy to gain 1d8 Temporary Hit Points; additionally, your weapon attacks deal an additional 1d4 Necrotic damage for 1 minute, and the next spell that you cast before the end of your next turn is cast as if you used a spell-slot one level higher than normal.   At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you gain an additional 2d8 temporary hit points for each slot level above 2nd. Additionally, at 5th, 7th, and 9th level, this spell increases your weapon attack's damage by an additional 1d4 Necrotic damage.
