Hiku - The Lover - CG

Beauty, Love, Wind

Tales of lovers lost ring throughout the realms, of two lovers who were destined to forever be apart, separated by a curse and a tale of loss. Hiku is one of these lovers, matron of the winds, she was once of the spirit wilds, a Kami and protector of Yokugan's waterways and the seven winds. She cared for the lands she watched over and the people therein, setting wind in their sails, washing away the filth and guiding lost souls to safe harbor. Many sailors sang the praises of Matron Wind, calling to her to aid their sails or to see them safely home, but it is only one of these lost souls that won the heart of Hiku.
Though Hiku's power was great and her reach far within the mortal realms, she was not free, trapped within her island by the Oni Lord, Kah'Dentu of the Shadowlands, Hiku could not escape, she could not see the realm that she cared for so much, she was stuck on her island with no way of escape. For the island was the only thing keeping her alive, a cage meant to keep the curse that Kah'Dentu laid upon her in check, though she could leave at any time, the chaos that this would unleash was far too great a price to pay for Hiku, and so she remained, locked away within her island, helping those that she could, that is until a mortal washed upon her shores.
It is the mortal woman Narhethi that washed to the shores of Hiku's realm, badly injured, weak from battle and blood loss that Hiku took the injured Narhethi to her island and nursed her back to health. Hiku was surprised after all, not many made their way to her island, it was not exactly an easy place to reach, a realm within realms, locked away from the world, and yet, here Narhethi lay within Hiku's prison. Hiku found the company welcome, and as she helped Narhethi, not just helped through a stray breeze here or a guiding star there, as she often did for sailors, but by actively tending to Narhethi's wounds, to hearing Narhethi's tales of the lands back on the mortal realm she grew a bond with Narhethi, and as Narhethi's strength grew so too did her love for her savior grow. Suddenly, Hiku's prison was no longer a prison, but a home, a place she could be with her love. What did it matter that she was cursed? She had Narhethi, she had found peace, and over the time she had with Narhethi, both of their worries forgotten, she had formed through this bond, a child, a beautiful mortal child.
Soon after this most joyous of moments, Hiku and Narethi's joy would be shattered, Hiku's cage was broken, but not by those seeking to free her from her curse, but by her tormentor; Kah'Dentu, he swept through the once pristine island, destroying the life Hiku and Narethi had built, but worse, in this tide of death, their child was lost, and Narethi was slain and dragged back to the mortal realms. What was once peaceful, now destroyed, Hiku was lost. She wept for days, which is said to be the cause for a great flood within the shores of Yokugan, and when Hiku had no tears left, she grew angry. Her anger flowing through her, suddenly she did not care that if she left her cage, that people would die, worse even that the world may break, all she cared about was rescuing her child and seeing her love.
She knew those that had left her isle could not return, that the island was made this way to protect her, she with a spark of energy shattered the gateway leading from her island to the cosmos beyond, but something stopped her from leaving. She thought of her child, of her mortal child, if she were to leave they would be lost just the same, worse they would be lost because of Hiku. Her anger subsided, and with it the gate of her cage reformed, but not before a whisper on the wind rose to Hiku, that of Narhethi, a promise that she would return, that she would bring back their lost child and break the curse on Hiku to see them together again, for love knows no bounds, not even death.
