Eold - The Forge Master

Creation, Earth, Family

The dwarven creation myths claim that the world was made atop the great forge, and that the father of creation would go on to build the dwarves as well. He cut them from the stone of the deep earth, and they would spend centuries digging to the surface. The dwarves have always had a deep connection with their creator, with almost all dwarves praying or revering him in some way. And so when the godfall came, it was a devastating loss for the dwarven people, to be left without the being that your life and existence had been so tightly bound. However, the fires of creation are never silent for long and soon the forging began anew under another god’s hammer.   None are sure where Eold came from, but he was the next to strike the great forge after the father of creation passed. Some believe him to be the offspring of their creator but Eold remained as stoic and distant as his predecessor. He avoided questions asked of his origins and history, instead preferring to focus on his divine work, the protection of the dwarven people and the faithful. He told those who followed the great forge before, that he would continue the traditions of eld. That he would instruct his people in the cutting of stone and the craft of fortress building. That he would honor all those who served in his name, and that he would endlessly serve them in turn. All those who sought his guidance and protection were family, and they would be treated as such.   And so he has for centuries hammered away at the great forge. Smithing works to be used in the fight to protect his followers. Against threats such as Yndraskos he is ever vigilant, and forged the Chains of Heaven that Torukk used to bind the beast. Crafting similar weapons for the other deities that reside within the heavens, hoping to avoid another period of darkness that the godfall that came before had unleashed.   Domains: Celebration, Forge, Life, Love, Loyalty, and Nature

History

Dogma

Home Plane

Eold originates from the upper planes, the realm of heaven where he continues to reside. There he outfits the other gods aligned with the powers of good and the armies of heaven.

Appearance

Relationships

As a member of the pantheon of deities that reside within heaven, Eold is on good terms if not allied with the others there within. As such, he also stands against most greater powers that originate from the lower planes such as the lords of the abyss and the hells.   Eold is the creator, albeit the unintentional one, of Skormun who was born from the sparking embers of the forge. However, the Ash Keeper proved to be a chaotic element in the otherwise lawful domain of the forge master. Eold was forced to banish his creation from his realm for a time for the twisted experiments he performed on the souls directed to him. The Forge Master was always filled with guilt over forcing a member of his ‘family’ into exile and hoped to eventually reconcile with his creation. When Eold learned of the Ash Keeper’s golem creations he was in one part proud that his creation had learned to forge something of his own, and on the other hand disturbed by the use of this forbidden knowledge. Regardless, more of the dwarven people began to accept the Ash Keeper and its use of golems and so too did Eold allow him to return and resume his duty as the gatekeeper to the afterlife. The Forge Master believing it better to keep Skormun close, to watch over him should he ever stray too far.

Temples and Shrines

Regions of Popular Worship

Followers

The dwarven peoples are the most common worshipers of Eold, but he finds purchase within the hearts of many. Those with large families tend to follow him for the protection he offers, and those who are of meager means look to him to help improve their crafts. He is often seen as a deity of contentment with ambition rarely finding itself within those who share his ideals and values.

Tenets

  • Stone Stand with Stone. Your duty is to your family and those close to you who you call kin, ensure they are ever cared for.
  • Perfection in Completion. Your work need not be flawless, it is more important to reach your goal than how you get there.
  • Master and Apprentice. Eold learned from the father of creation and you too should help pass knowledge on to future generations.

Sins

  • Waste and Want. Do not needless defile the gifts of stone and soil, to dig deep for greed is a wanton disgrace.
  • Biting the Hand. Existence is not always easy, but do not betray the trust of those who reach out to you in times of need.
  • Corrupting the Holy Metal. Oricalcum is the favored metal of Eold, do not corrupt with dark magics and evil intent.
