Aether Drake (E - Thur)

Among the dark void of space, exist behemoths that wander between the stars of the Milky way Galaxy. Though they seem rare, they have been observed by many aboard interstellar ships as they traverse the galaxy. These Beasts are known as Aether Drakes, though they have been given other names such as Leviathans or Void Whales.

Anatomy

Though the exact measurements of the Aether drake have yet to be proven, it is estimated that an Aether Drake has a length of roughly 800 Miles (1287.48 Kilometers) to roughly 2700 miles (4345.229 Kilometers). It has 3 wings on each side of its body with a wing span of roughly 950 miles (1528.88 Kilometers) to 3000 miles (4828.032 Kilometers). The bottom wing is the smallest of the 3, located almost near its belly. The middle wing is the Largest of the 3, being located directly on the beasts side. The top Wing is located towards the top of its body and a just behind the middle wing.
It has a large mouth, which has been observed to have many rows of sharp teeth similar to that of a shark. Two mandibles are located just behind the jaw that can cover the front of its face that seem to protect it from debris. It has 2 large purple colored eyes on each side of its head. It also has armored plates that line its body going all the way back to the base of the tale, where 3 tail fins are located on each side going back to the end of the tail.
The Color of the Drakes almost always are black with fluorescent Purple hues. The skin that makes up its wings and tale fins are a light purple. Its body is mostly black with purple markings going all across it in patterns that seem to be unique to each one.
Drakes have also been observed to have a defense mechanism they can use if they are in danger from someone or something. When Drakes have been attacked, they are able to fire large flares of hot plasma at the thing attacking them. This plasma is strong enough to burn through shields and most metals, causing a lot of damage to the thing attacking it. The color of this plasma is generally a dark fluorescent purple.

Locomotion and Diet

The Aether Drake has been observed to move by moving its wings similar to that of a bird. However, due to these creatures existing in the vacuum of space, they have been observed to create small localized explosions when the end of their middle wings meets their body. This explosion seems to propel them forward as they use their tale fins as well as the bottom and top wings to steer through the vacuum of space.
Aether Drakes consume Aether as their source of food, pulling it from the Luminarum in large puddles that it will then bite into. This lends credence to the theory that the Drakes abilities come from Aether consumption, though it seems immune to the effects it causes in humans.
Lastly, Aether Drakes posses the ability to use a form of FTL travel to move from one system to another. Using Aether, they seem to be able to rip open rifts that they can then use to move to another point in the galaxy. These Rifts will often send reverberations around them, destroying debris and ships alike.

Intelligence

Drakes are far more intelligent than most animals, being similar to that of Dolphins from Earth, and seemingly possessing a firm understanding of the world around them. They have shown a capacity for compassion when they save interstellar vessels that are in danger from things like space debris. They have also been able to communicate to those they have saved with a form of telepathy and using images it sends to the users mind. Drakes also seem to understand that when they teleport, it causes damage to their surroundings. If they are near vessels that aren't attacking them, they will move to a location further away before attempting to teleport to another location.

Symbolism

The Aether Drake is used as a symbol of power and freedom. With Organizations like the The Luminar Foundation using it in their emblems. The Foundations Emblem is an Aether Drake in the middle of flapping its wings surrounded by stars. Due to this, laws have been made to protect these Drakes from hunting, with those caught being sentenced to Death.
