Goroth (goh-roth or gaw-roth)

Master of the Mold

Goroth is a sort of manic, psychotic character. Almost like a mad-scientist of nature, if that makes sense. He derives a sick satisfaction from corrupting nature and mutating creatures, and feels completely justified in doing so for some reason (to be determined). I picture that he is most often smiling and cackling. After he corrupts or mutates some plant or creature, he might look at the PCs with child-like eyes, seeking approval. He is genuinely confused and disturbed that not everyone finds as much amazement as he does in his perversions of nature. Goroth is a hermit that lived alone in the forest for over 40 years, studying the world in isolation. Living alone his whole life, he did pretty much whatever he wanted, with no one to teach him any sense of morality. He discovered a new species of squirrel and became fixated on perfecting and controlling it. So he spends years experimenting on this squirrel using magic given to them by Lathander, the god of nature. He continued "perfecting" it until one day, He could find nothing left to change. The specimen was as perfect as he could make it. It was fast, strong, and obedient. An omnivore that could derive the nutrients it needed out of anything it ate. And yet, this terrified Goroth. He needed to continue working on this project. It was his only purpose. He spent days thinking about what he could improve, but nothing seemed to work. The days turned to weeks. It was not until after he had lost any trace of what some may have seen as sanity that he thought of what to do. He needed to make more. He had taken this specimen and made it one of a kind. He knew he couldn't repeat this process on more animals one at a time, so he devised a plan. He needed to make something that could imbue other plants and animals with the same qualities as he formed in his squirrel. Goroth had an idea: mold. The mold was an innocuous, common type of fungus, but through Goroth's experimentation and use of Lathander's magic, it became something much more sinister. And the spores are how the corruption spreads, allowing Goroth to infect other creatures and plants with his sinister creation. He wears light, natural garb, like a fur loin-cloth or something of that nature. He covers himself in the mold because, after working with it for so long, he is immune to the sickness it normally causes. He doesn’t realize the mold he covers himself with makes him sick. However, it also imbues him with extreme agility and physical abilities abnormal for his size. He has naturally blonde hair, but his hair has gone completely black, brown, greasy, and slimy with the mold smeared through it. He has a gaunt, almost skeletal appearance due to his attention being put towards only his experiments, resulting in malnourishment. His skin is pale and sickly-looking from exposure to the mold. He has a persistent cough/wheeze from inhaling the spores. He carries a leather satchel filled with different molds and tools for experimentation.
