SCP-x1996 is to be housed in a specialized containment chamber at Site-██. The chamber must be constructed with reinforced steel and lined with anti-teleportation arrays to prevent unintentional appearances of SCP-x1996 entities (designated SCP-x1996-1 through SCP-x1996-151) outside of containment.

Surveillance of SCP-x1996 is to be maintained at all times. Any manifestation of a new SCP-x1996 instance must be reported immediately to the Site Director. Mobile Task Force Mu-13 ("Ghostbusters") is on standby for neutralization or retrieval of newly generated entities if containment fails.
No personnel are permitted direct contact with SCP-x1996 without authorization from the O5 Council. All research involving SCP-x1996 requires Level 4 clearance, and experiments must be conducted with the utmost caution due to the unpredictable nature of SCP-x1996's generative events.

Description:
SCP-x1996 is a spherical crystal approximately 20 cm in diameter, composed of an unknown material resembling a mixture of ruby and quartz. The object was discovered in [REDACTED], Japan, in 19██, embedded within a shrine thought to have been abandoned for centuries. SCP-x1996 emits a faint red glow and vibrates at irregular intervals, though these vibrations have shown no consistent pattern or correlation to the creation of SCP-x1996 instances.
SCP-x1996 generates entities (designated SCP-x1996-1 through SCP-x1996-151) at seemingly random intervals. The most recent recorded manifestation occurred ██ years ago, suggesting extended dormancy periods between creation events. Each generated entity is unique in appearance, behavior, and abilities. Despite their uniqueness, some entities appear to form "sets" or "progressions," where two or three entities share thematic or structural similarities, suggesting evolutionary development.

For example:
SCP-x1996-72: A small, semi-aquatic organism with a translucent, dome-shaped body and two prehensile tentacles. Emits weak electrical discharges and uses bioluminescent patches to pacify observers.
SCP-x1996-73: A larger, more aggressive form of SCP-x1996-72 with 16 corrosive-coated tentacles and the ability to emit high-pressure water jets and disorienting light flashes. Exhibits territorial behavior and limited hive-mind influence over aquatic creatures.

The nature of the connection between SCP-x1996 entities and SCP-x1996 itself remains unclear. Generated entities do not display consistent hostility but have been known to display territorial behavior, especially towards other SCP-x1996 entities.
