The Cult of Nogrul

The Cult of Nogrul (dwarven word for dragon) is a small sect of dragon-worshippers who believe that before the end of days the dragons will return to Tal'Lyra, gifting great wealth to their followers. This cult has devotees all over the talian part of the continent, while avoiding the dwarven towns as they would be probably imprisoned and executed here. While most of them are just normal humans living their live, some of them are more devoted to their faith and actively try to convert others. Some even believe that to bring back their gods the societies of the modern world must be weakened and eagerly try to accomplish that goal.

Emergence of the Cult

As most of the continent was devasted by the Windsong Rebellion, some humans turned away from their original gods and searched for different otherworldly beings to worship. A group of soldiers which barely survived a battle with some of the rebelling wizards found an old monument near Cairn which they believed to be a sign that the dragon will come back. In their despair they started to praise the dragons of old as they hoped the brutal beasts would reward them when they returned to exert their revenge.
As they split up at the end of the rebellion and return to their homes, they brought their new found faith with them and succeeded in converting some others to this faith. While most of them prayed in secret, to not alarm the followers of the old gods, some organized into some kind of cult which actively served their new lords. Acting out of the shadows they tried to destabilize the realms of the continent even more, most of the time with violence. Soon they adopted the dwarven name Nogrulas for themselves, to spite the old enemies of their gods, the dwarves. As some of them were caught and interrogated from time to time, they became known as the cult of the dragon or of Nogrul.

The Power of the Dragons

As the followers of the sect prayed to the dragons for their reward at the end of world, some were somehow able to obtain some powers helping in their destructive ways. It is not known what or who grants these cultist their power, but over time the followers of Nogrul learned more and more and reached greater levels of power. Some historians believe that the great fires of Cairn and Rashor, which devasted both towns 300 years ago nearly at the same time was caused by these cultist.
As a few cultist were caught over the years, their presence and their abilities are generally known in most human towns. While none of them revealed how they obtained those powers, this enabled historians and other writers to document the potential of this cult. It is believed that the mightiest of the followers of the dragons and conjure and control deadly flames and fire.

Places of Worship

While the exact locations of the monuments and meeting places of this cult were never revealed, most of those educated on this subject believe that there are at least two places of worship where they meet from time to time. It is believed that here they plan their next moves and attacks while also sacrifice innocent beings and even other humans to their gods of fire.
One of those monument is believed to be near or in Rashor and the other one in the eastern part of the continent. Only true believers of Nogrul get to step into these places and leave them alive again, while others are burned and sacrificed.

The Situation Today

In the last decades, as the number of cult members grew, so did the fiery attacks on the societies of Tal'Lyra. Recently some towns, like Cairn, started to actively hunt the cultists hiding in their cities. In Rashor new policies, like the Vesikol, were enacted by the last count, Sir Jordil, to combat these worshippers of fire. The cultists themselves still hide in the shadows, waiting for their moment of glory.
