The angel Zariel, fed up with her peers in Mount Celestia's reluctance to get involved in the affairs of the devils and demons and their eternal Blood War, came to Elturel to train the mortals to destroy the evil the angelic host refused to deal with. She promised that, when they were ready, she would take them straight to Avernus to destroy the evil that has been plaguing the land.

The Ride
Military: Battle"The Ride" as it became known, was the culmination of all of years worth of training Zariel had begun in Elturel. Thousands of men and women of various races and backgrounds had flocked to Elturel to take part in the most daring strike against evil. They rode at dawn into a portal of liquid fire straight into the heart of Avernus, with Zariel following her army in from behind. Several days passed in silent anticipation before a haggard and bleeding group of several dozen warriors, many missing limbs, rushed back through the portal. They closed the portal behind them, and never spoke of the horrors they witnessed. According the account, they were overrun and Zariel, and the rest of the Hellriders, fell in battle.

Vampire Lord Conquers Elturel
Military: BattleShortly before midnight, a powerful vampire lord who had been eyeing Elturel for some time laid siege to the city. Having been spying on the city's defenses for quite some time, he quickly conquered the city and laid waste to any who rose up arms against him and his undead horde.

The Companion Appears
Celestial / CosmicThavius Kreeg, a priest of Torm, appealed to his god to save him and the city from the vampire menance, and his prayer was answered. At noon a second sun blazed into existence above Elturel, bathing the city and countryside in a holy light that drove the undead screaming into the mountains and out of the city. It was known as "The Companion", and heraded a new age for Elturel as the bastion of faith, justice, and order.

Thavius Kreeg's Rise to High Overseer
Political eventThavius Kreeg, hailed as the city's hero, quickly rose in power and popularity. He was named the High Overseer soon after and lead the city to become the religous and culture center of Elturgard and the surrounding region.

Elturel Disappears
Disaster / DestructionAt noon, on the same day The Companion appeared, it grew and twisted into a black and red vortex of energy and heat, pulling the city of Elturel with it into parts unknown. Witnesses say they heard the sound devils cackling and the smell of brimstone and sulfur in the air as the city was pulled ever deeper into some infernal hellscape before closing and leaving a burning, charred, and twisted landscape behind.
