Switrya
An ice-world where the living shun the light of the sun
8 Eliorgrom 284
Switrya is one of many ancient and inhabited moons orbiting the gas giant Ariel. Switrya has had a long and tulmultuous history full of cataclysmic events, desperate living situations, and the violence that comes with such things. It has seen magical and technological innovation, the rise and fall of empires, wide-scale destruction. The geography sports the ruins and remnants of various civilizations from eons past.
Switrya is an ice world that gets only moderate sunlight, yet life thrives there. The plants, animals, and people are adapted fully to the cold and the dark. In fact, all life has some form of fatal allergy to the sun, and therefore adapted ways to avoid its rays directly. All creatures on Switrya are magical creatures with magical bodies, and they can perform magic as naturally as breathing.
In the time of Her Majesty Queen Matriarch Illyrie-at izas Paha-Imbor of Kalthos, people from all over Switrya are represented among her citizens, an echo of the long-gone Kalthian Empire that spanned the entire continent and then some. There are no working trains anymore, only their ruins, but every day seems closer to a breakthrough. There are no wizards anymore in the whole world, wiped out 250 years ago in a mass annihilation. They’d figured out the greenhouses, of course, and made good use of them, cultivating all sorts of strange, sun-eating flora for advanced poisons, weaponry, and more… hedonistic pursuits. Sun gear is cheap and easy to come by, but wears down quickly, and the good stuff is expensive. Food is plentiful, and many people enjoy a peaceful life of leisure, with significant cultural emphasis on art, music, recreation, and pleasure. Illyrie-at is a deeply pious queen devoted to Brysta, god-matriarch of the Twelve, and cites her relationship with the goddess as the main factor in her success.
