Imbued Energy Overflow

People with superpowers, be it Imbued or Mutant, are inherently and irreversibly connected to the flow of aether. Their bodies naturally absorb this ever-present energy, and whenever they use their powers, they release this energy back into the world. When this doesn't happen, however, when they never use their powers, they keep gathering energy. This, eventually, results in an Imbued Energy Overflow, also known as a IEO or simply as an Overflow.
When an Imbued holds more energy than their body can hold, all energy is expelled at once. The exact limit varies per person, depending on a variety of factors (including what powers they have, how strong their powers are, and whether they're Imbued or Mutant), but it exists for everyone. The Overflow is fatal in almost all cases, and often causes large-scale damage and injury to the environment. Because of this, people with powers are encouraged to use them, lest they turn into ticking time bombs.

Manifestation

An Overflow is an extremely powerful and uncontrollable outburst of an Imbued's powers, and as such takes the shape of whatever their powers are. A pyrokinetic who can normally form a tiny candle-flame, for example, might have an Overflow that burns down an entire city block in the blink of an eye.
Those who can manifest elements will do so. Those who can only manipulate what is around them do so. Those who only have powers which affect their own bodies... will often release a wave of concentrated Imbued energy. This energy wave holds enough energy to be visible to the naked eye, and thus briefly makes the currents of Imbued energy visible. It is also often uniquely devastating, as it piles the extra energy onto any other Imbued within its path. In cultures where repression of powers is common, such a wave can thus result in a cascade of Overflows, where every Imbued within the path will cross their own limits and Overflow as well, to devastating effect.
