Bounty Hunter

There are a number of different kinds of bounty hunters on this planet, a number of which go after low level parole-breakers or perhaps animals. The majority of those I have met personally are the ones tackling a more challenging prey: the superpowered.   Many of them are considered consultants, highly independent, so they lack the affiliations with governments or teams or agencies that might get in someone else's way.   They tend to be more wilderness-savvy than most people, since a lot of people hiding from their foes and the price on their head will end up in fairly remote places. I've contracted a few myself, simply to get me across one of the polar caps safely, or else to traverse a desert with a minimum of fuss.   It is important to remember, though, they are not bodyguards. Nor are they assassins. They are hunters.   What I find interesting is that while they seem to appreciate being isolated and separate, most of them are also skilled at navigating the more elaborate types of social gatherings available. For a few, this is because they're rich people with decent skills and not enough resources to become one of the tech-based heroes, which means this is simply a way of navigating their usual turf. For most of them, it's because the effort of locating and isolating a target involves being able to convince those around you to let you do what is needed.   With what I am sure will surprise some people, I am heartily in favor of bounty hunters as a profession. The ones who actually make it past the first month are the kind of people who don't underestimate their targets, which makes facing off with one incredibly satisfying when you actually get away. They also don't tend to kill their targets, which allows for a certain level of paradoxical safety compared to fighting someone else with superpowers.   They also tend to have a really good knowledge of the ancient and forgotten places in the world.
