Battle of the Sky Demon

This battle was the biggest thing to happen to this planet in a long time, and it was all over with in maybe an hour. That can tell you a lot about how fast the world can change, and how things on the other side of the globe can affect you in ways you don't predict.
The battle happened when I was six or so, before a time I remember. There's still a lot of information available, and some of the science involved is interesting so I read about it. Also, large monsters tend to be my kind of thing.
It started in the morning, maybe 10am or so. Someone observed a green circle in the sky, someone else figured out it was some kind of portal, and pretty soon there were a bunch of people standing around filming and investigating and trying to figure out how to get closer.
Two hours in, the portal becomes fully formed and starts throwing off sparks. Most people stuck around, and thus there was a massive crowd on hand when the entity loosely defined as "Sky Demon" arrived and started trying to destroy everything.
A/n: Ruby has theories about how the portal is connected to the Amulet, since the symbology on it also looks to be visible on the fully formed portal, in some pictures. This is unclear.
The monster was a nasty piece of work. Clearly intelligent, clearly powerful, and utterly uninterested in being talked down from its plans of destruction. I have a theory that it was actually a kind of avatar of a known supervillain, but can't prove it in the slightest so I won't say who.
A bunch of heroes showed up to deal with it, but the important ones were Lightman and Velocity. The battle didn't go all that well until they showed up. Velocity took charge on the ground, and Lightman handled the aerial combatants. Even SIVIC agents on the scene paid attention to their instructions. Even with being organized at that point, the battle would not have ended well for the city if it had continued the way it was.
Lightman and Velocity decided to merge their powers (theory incomplete as to how) and knocked the Sky Demon back through an entirely different portal to the Psiaic Dimension. They were caught up in the wake and dragged in themselves.
