Rhodes Duchamps Character in suns and stars | World Anvil

Rhodes Duchamps

Hard to imagine the bookish accounting major who graduated middle of her class in the late 2000s as what she became: the kicking off point of a massive psuedo-empire. It isn't that she meant to do this, of course. Her concept for what would become the Daughters of Artemis was much more benign than the organization has become.   But perhaps that's why she was killed. A smoking gun, a single bullet, a hole in her throat in 2037.   We'll never know.

Rhodes Duchamps was a rather handsome woman who grew up with her mind in the stars, courtesy of the work her parents did. She was luckily intelligent enough to get a jumpstart on her grade school education, and this carried into highschool: one of those prodigal students who graduates college at like, fifteen or sixteen. That's her. Her cadre of scientists called themselves the Daughters of Artemis because it was a bulwark against the sexism of the field-- they took the name of a Goddess who had murdered a man for intruding upon her privacy, and killed him with his own hunting hounds at that.   Unfortunately, her philanthropy and desire for a better future ran afoul of some compatriots who wanted to do more than that. Wasn't enough money in the business of working with people. Rhodes discovered the depths to which some of her companions sunk for their projects and wanted to blow the lid off of all of it.   So they killed her.   They killed her,
took the name she gave to the cadre, intended to make them strong.
The first Tau experiment was finalized in 2040, two years after Rhodes was murdered.

Grim, isn't it?

She died before the OSP even knew Earth was alive.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Rhodes was sharply-dressed, with strong shoulders and a proud bearing. Her smiles were slightly open-lipped with a slight press of her tongue to the back of her teeth. At the time of her death, her face had several laugh-line wrinkles marking it.

Body Features

A birth mark ( splotched and imperfect ) on her chin. An additional birthmark ( paler, looking like a swirl ) on her right palm.   Hysterectomy scars on her midsection.

Facial Features

Strong chin, high cheeks. Eyes always seemed to be smiling, even if you didn't know what she was smiling at.

Apparel & Accessories

Rhodes always dressed nicely, even for simple office meetings. She often wore suits, but was equally fond of khakis paired with vests, and was especially partial to deep shades of blue.

Mental characteristics

Accomplishments & Achievements

Through cooperation with Esmeralda Vaughn, Rhodes became responsible for one of the most important breakthroughs in human history: the ability to meld technology and flesh without outright killing the human involved. Additionally, Rhodes' idea to send an invitation into the void of space consisting of a display of progress, invention, and the desperation of humankind turned out to be one of the factors leading to Humanity's acceptance into the (now) long-defunct Order of Stellar Promise -- the OSP.
