Song of Shaelyon
The Song of Shaelyon is a legendary song that records the story of how Shaelyon the Shade-Sun rebelled against the Bright One and the Seven Suns to protect the Cosmos.
When the world was young the Bright One had eight servant spirits, of them now only seven remain that way and they are the Seven Suns which blight the Scorched Lands with their oppressive rays.
The eighth of them was Shaelyon who at the time of the War of the Ancients received visions of what the war that the Three Divinities were fighting would lead to.
Wanting to prevent the destruction of all life on the Prime World Disk Shaelyon raised their voice at the congregation of the nine in the Realm of Light but all they gained was scorn and punishment.
The Bright One and the Seven Suns called them a fool and a heretic then cast them out of the realm to wander the Cosmos alone.
After walking alone for an eternity beyond the infinite reaches of the Farer Astral Realm Shaelyon found a strange realm tucked away and shaded between stars.
In this realm they encountered one that called themselves no names for it was older than names, and had no age for it was older than time. It was incomprehensible and uncaring and kind at once.
This being granted them rest and respite. Walking through its halls Shaelyon saw a shield of bronze, polished so much it was like mirror glass and decorated with amber that held memories of things long lost.
They knew that this shield was what they needed, they knew it was what they had to take and so they asked the One. It said to them “This shield is not yours to have, not yours to keep, it is my greatest prize and I shall hold it evermore.”
By night Shaelyon broke hospitality and went and took the shield and fled.
They felt hunted for a long time after that but eventually reached the center of the Cosmos again where they found everyone still embroiled in senseless war.
They saw the casting of the Ultimate Spell and how the Umbral Cloak began to be ripped to shreds and raised the shield they stole to cover it.
It is only by this act that life on the Prime World Disk remains possible and now Shaelyon is recalled by some of the people of the Scorched Lands as the one who upholds the Penumbral Cloak.
By dusk Shaelyon’s shield blocks now refracts the light of Seven Suns enabling the people of the Prime World Disk to dwell in peace for a time.
