Ancient Artifact
Ancient Artifacts is what objects dating back to antesturian times and the Great Exodus are commonly called in the City of Styx.
They are treated by many with great reverence and are considered magickal artifacts of great power.
Both the Church of Serkatha and the Forestfolk have their own intricate rituals which are employed to maintain and use such artifacts.
The most widely known of these incredibly rare and valuable artifacts are Artifact Firearms, a type of firearm that though aesthetically not unlike the Flintlock and Percussion Cap Firearms common in Styx function in a way entirely different than them.
Whereas one fills gunpowder into a Rifle then adds a ball and then fires it by lighting the powder charge sending the ball flying at deadly speed Artifact Firearms use neither gunpowder nor balls.
When a skilled magick wielder uses an Artifact Firearm they can conjure a spectral bullet using a specialized ritual which was rediscovered by the Union of Magifactury Workers in the ancient archives of the Church of Serkatha.
Upon the pressing of the trigger this spectral bullet flies at incredibly speed and can hit targets at a range far greater than most magick wielders can achieve with their ordinary magick and also than the range at which an ordinary firearm can hit and kill.
The effective firing range of artifact rifles is 400 to 500 meters.
Such firearms are rare; the largest collection of them is in possession of the Armed Forces of the Stygian Republic where the specially trained Morai Snipers wield them with legendary and deadly accuracy.
Also used by the Morai Snipers are stealth suits made from spider silk which function like cloaks of invisibility and are also based on ancient prototypes preserved by the Church of Serkatha.
There are other much stranger ancient artifacts and few of them are even remotely understood by the people of Styx.
