Magic

Overview

Magic is a force drawn from the world rather than the soul. It does not create something from nothing — it reshapes what already exists, weaving the natural order to the caster’s will. Its presence connects all species, though the form and philosophy behind its use differ drastically between cultures.

Natural Magic

Natural magic is the oldest form, rooted in tradition, ritual, and environment. Anyone can learn it, regardless of birth or bloodline, though it demands patience and preparation. Practitioners rely on charms, symbols, herbs, and spoken rites to invoke subtle changes — a ward to protect a home, a blessing to ensure a safe birth, or a curse whispered under the moon. Its effects are rarely flashy but deeply respected for their reliability and spiritual balance.   Naturalists see the world as a living system. They borrow energy from nature and return it when the spell concludes, leaving no true wound behind. In older times, most villages and small settlements hold at least one such practitioner, often mistaken for healers or folk shamans.

Arcane Magic

Arcane magic, in contrast, is the study of control. It’s learned, inherited, or both — built upon symbols, sigils, and catalysts that allow casters to manipulate existing elements with precision. Arcane magic thrives in cities and academies, where scholars refine techniques to summon, shield, or strike with deadly accuracy.   Arcane casters rely on intellect as much as instinct. Their magic channels through crafted tools: staffs, rings, pendants, or etched spell circles. While powerful, it lacks the natural harmony of its older counterpart, often bending the world’s rhythm rather than moving with it

Effect

Magic, whether natural or arcane, cannot exist without a catalyst — material, spoken, or spiritual. Herbs, blood, inscriptions, and gemstones act as amplifiers, while concentration and emotion determine strength. Natural magic works best in its native environment; arcane magic favors structure and order.

Side/Secondary Effects

Excessive magic usage drains stamina and mental focus. Overexertion can cause dizziness, nosebleeds, or cognitive dissonance. Naturalists risk spiritual backlash if they offend the balance of nature; arcanists risk feedback from unstable runes or broken focus. Proper grounding and recovery are essential to avoid permanent damage.

Manifestation

Natural magic typically appears as muted, earthy glows — soft light pulsing from symbols, herbs, or soil. Arcane magic manifests as geometric light, clean and deliberate, its color tied to the caster’s chosen element or catalyst.
