Lost Souls

The souls that enter the domain of the Abyss are those lost for too long—metaphorically or literally. It also takes the souls of the forgotten. The Abyss is black. Nothing but black. What kind of black depends on the soul. Pitch black. Heavy black. Suffocating black. Black that devours. Unlike Lucana, its white counterpart, the Abyss does not cater to individual souls. Each one drifts endlessly in the dark until it fades from existence.

Geography

The Abyss exists all around and throughout the other realms. It is a vast, empty black expanse stretching endlessly in every direction — soundless. To those who truly see it, there is nothing here but black that breathes, black that swallows light, black that devours thought.

Ecosystem

The Abyss has no life, no motion, and no memory of what it consumes. It does not adapt or create; it simply absorbs. Souls that fall within it drift until they dissolve, leaving behind no echo, no trace, not even silence—only more black. The Abyss feeds on absence itself, deepening with every forgotten name, every vanished thought. It is not hunger, not intent—just inevitability.

Localized Phenomena

Echo Resonance

The Abyss mirrors what already exists within a soul, amplifying self-doubt until the mind unravels. Those who understand this resonance can stop the Abyss from swallowing the living ethis. By recognizing the echoes as their own thoughts, the living can ground their ethis, creating a mental barrier the Abyss cannot easily penetrate. Skilled Ferryn uses their erse energy and certain awakened mortals use this awareness deliberately, transforming the resonance from a weapon of despair into a shield of identity.

Erse Energy

Erse energy — the raw current of life itself — naturally repels the Abyss. When exposed to it, the void recoils, unable to consume the living essence it represents. Ferryn wield this force most effectively, drawing on residual erse from the ethis, the soul, they sever. For the living, its use is rare and desperate; only when all livine is spent can erse surface. Even then, using it leaves the ethis bare, vulnerable to the Abyss once death comes.

Fauna & Flora

Kahge Cane

A dog like entity that is completely black, besides its red glowing eyes. These dog like creatures hunt through the night, using nearby shadows to hasten their speed and attack from unknown angles.

Noir

A humanoid entity of complete blackness, capable of reshaping its form into impossible shapes. It has round glowing white circles in place of its eyes that change color based on its mood. Born from the Abyss during assaults by hunters, Noir exists as its defender—an embodiment of the void’s will to protect itself. Where Aetermius collect, Noir consumes.

Vath

Amorphous black beings that roam the earth, varying in size from drifting motes to towering masses. They serve as extensions of the Abyss, gently gathering lost souls and forgotten things. Small vath act as omens, their appearance signaling the Abyss’s proximity. The larger forms swallow what is lost, carrying it quietly back into the void. Despite their unsettling appearance, vath are calm, almost compassionate, in their duty.
